?IINUT 3 OF FPZVICUS STING - The minutes of the last meeting held July 7,1943
were read at length by the City Clerk, approved as read and so endorsed
by the Uaycr.
PUBLIC HDARINGS - No parsons appearing at this time, this order was set over
-until later in the meetL-g.
The Clerk reported that he had advertised as directed July 7th in the two
local newspapers for bids on the walnut crop at Lake Park and at the Sewage
Disposal Plant but that no bids had been received. At the order of the
Mayor, tire time in which to receive bids was extended to August 4,1943 -
CQ'lflllilCATIONS-NOTICES-REPORTS -
A copy of the policy covering the automobile liability of Sanitary City.
Scavanger Company was received from the local agent of the insurance
carrier.
The Clerk reported receipt of a copy of a Digest of the Laws Enacted in
the 1943 Legislature from the League of California Cities and that the
same is available in his office for those interested.
Notice of the Annual Conference of the League of California Cities to be
held in Sacramento October 19th to 21st and the Secretary's solicitation
for program suggestions was received.
Mayor Finn filed a notice of the bi-monthly meeting of the Central Valley
Division of the League of California Cities to be held in Merced Jul; 27,
1943 stating that those composing the Local War Council should particur-
ly be interested in attending.
Cne notice of transfer of Alcoholic Beverage License was received from the
State Board of Equalization, the same covering the premises at 101 E.Fine
Street.
P.eports of the City Clerk and of the City Treasurer for the quarter ended
June 30, 1943 were received and read.
PUBLIC HEARINGS - This order was reopened on the appearance of Oscar Dittmanson
representing the local chapter of Disabled War Veterans, who asked use of
Lodi Stadium for staging a rodeo on Sunday, August 29, 1943, the funds
received by the Veterans to apply to the completion of the swimming pool
at Hammond Hospital, Modesto. Mr Dittmanson stated that the City would
receire the regular stadium fee of 5¢ per admission and in all ways, the
same conditions would obtain as at the former rodeo held May 30th. On
poll of the council by the Mayor, the permission sought was granted.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS - The renewal of the City's policy of alar Risk Insurance
expiring August 6, 1943 was ordered laid over to the next meeting when
more information would be available.
N' -';",Y BUSINESS - Three new applications for business licenses were received and
after their reading, were referred to the Chief of Police as required by
ordinance.
The application of Oscar T.Thumbler and Herman Bauer for a merchants
license (garage) at 741 S.Cherokee Lane presented June 16,1943 was
approved and a license ordered granted.
PUBLIC HEARINGS - This order again reopened on the appearance of a delegation
consisting of Mr Robert S. Fuller, Mr Faymond G. Patton, Mr D. D. Smith,
Mr Anthony Sala and Lir Ira C. Shank. Mr Fuller stated that these men
represented the Postwar Planning Committee of Lodi District Chamber of
Commerce, organized with the objects of planning for post-war employment
of those returned from military service and ;tar industries. The commit-
tee was especially interested in securing work for these men during the
re -adjustment period that would intervene between the cessation of hostilities
and the resumption of private employment and asked the cooperation of the
City Council in preparing for this critical time by providing the work and
so timing it that it would meet the emergency.
Mayor ?inn assured the committee that the City Council was fully aware of
the necessity for the work contemplated and was providing reserves that
woad assist in putting men to work as soon as the was is concluded. He
also mentioned the catalog of projects now in site consisting of problems
tha`, could well be made into work projects.

Ur Anthony Sala of the committee asked that the City furnish an estimate of
the mar. power that could be absorbed by the City.
