VINUTES OF LAST !!TING - The minutes of the last meeting held June 16, 1943
were read at length by the Clerk, approved as read and so endorsed by the
Mater . '
PUBLIC HEARINGS - No persons appearing, this order of business was passed.
C01,2M NICATIONS- NOTICES - X-,PCRTS
On receipt of written advice from the Librarian of Lodi Public Library
that the terms of office of Trustees Ida L. Rinn and Wilson H. Thompson had
expired June 30, 1943, both were re -appointed for the statutory term of office
of three years from July 1, 1943 by the adoption of Resolution No 1170, int-
roduced by Councilman Coffield, Weihe second and carried by unanimous vote.
One notice of an application for license under the Alcoholic Beverage
Control Act was received from the State Board of Equalization, that of Cal-
ifornia 'Vine Sales Company, Oak & School Streets.
Reports of the Chief of Police and of the City Poundmaster for the month
of June were received, read and ordered filed.
George D. Polenske, Fire Chief, presented his annual report.
Fred W. Post reported briefly by letter of the recent Fresno mid -summer
meeting of the California Sewage 47orks Operators.
NE71 BUSINESS - License applications #440-441-442 presented June 2,1943 were
ordered granted. New applications Nos 443 to 450, inclusive were read and
ordered referred to the Chief of Police as required by Ordinance No 277.
The Clerk requested an expression of the Council as to the renewal of the
City's :Tar Risk insurance expiring August 6, 1943 and the Mayor directed that
consideration be given this matter so that action might be had at the next
meeting.
The Clerk was directed to publish a notice inviting proposals for the
purchase of the crop of walnuts growing at Lake Park and at the Sewage Disp-
osla Plant.
BOARD OF EQUALIZATION - At this time the City Council was resolved into a Board
of Equalization and the Clerk reported that the Assessment Lists for 1943-44
had been turned over to him by the City Assessor and that due notice of the
sitting of the City Council as a Board of Equalization had been published in
The Lodi Times as evidenced by an affidavit of publication filed by the princip-
al clerk of that newspaper.
No persons appeared in appeal from the judgement of the City Assessor and
the Clerk reported that no complaints or appeals in writing had been filed with
him. It was therefore ordered that the Assessment Lists as filed be declared
rectified and that the same constitute the Assessment Poll upon which taxes for
the fiscal year 1943-1944 should hereafter be levied and computed. Sessions of
the Board of Equalization for the curreht year were then terminated and the
Council returned to it's usual order of business.
Claims as approved by the Finance Committee in the amount of $27,508.94
were allowed on motion of Councilman 7.eihe, Riggs second.
At this time, 9:06 o'clock P.M. the Council was resaived into Committee
of the :Thole and the room cleared, returning to open session at 10:15 P.M.
The matter of renewal of the present garbage collection contract was
ordered laid over until July 21,1943.
City Attorney Gienn West reported orally on the status of the case of
Shealor vs City of Lodi.

Cn motion of Councilman Coffield, Riggs second, the resignation of F.F.Smith,
Electric Service Man was ordered accepted as of June 30, 1943, the date of his
resignation, he to be allowed the accrued vacation time due him for one years
service next preceeding the date of his resignation.
At 10:32 o'clock P.M. and orr motion of Councilman Weihe, the City Council
adjourned.
