MINUTcS OF PMIOUS 1L-,2TING - The minutes of.the last meeting held August 19,
1942 were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor.
PUBLIC H .'P.INGS - Adam Suecht, 333 Maple Street requested that the City abandon
the 20 foot alley lyling east of Lot 2 in Block 1 of "Boden's Subdivision” as
useless and unnecessary. At the order of the 'Wayor, the City Superintendent of
Streets and the City Clerk were directed to report on the attitude of abutting
land owners and the effect of such an abandonment.
CO,.?+:J: ICATIONS AND NOTICES.- Dave Kelley, Athletic Director at Mather Field
requested allocation of use of Lodi Stadium tentavily on October 17th and on
November 14th or 15th. The City Clerk was directed to ascertain from the
local High School authorities whether these dates would conflict with High
School activities.
P ?CRRTS - Reports for the month of August were received and read from the Chief
of Folice and from the City Poundmaster. Both ordered filed.
UPJFI_*iISH BUSINESS - The amended agreement supercedirg that approved by Resol-
ution No 1123, May 6, 1942, which Ras presented for approval August 19th., was
a,:, -proved and execution ordered by the adoption of Resolution No. 1141, introduced
'dand carried by unanimous vote. This is an

agreement with Pacific Gas & Electric Company, Pacific Telephone and Telegraph
Company and the City of Lodi for joint use of Stockton Avenue and Kettl man
Lane.
"_'':e City Council decided that it �-ould not be ir_terssted in sell-
ing Lot 9, Block 6 of Lawrence Homestead Addition No 2 at this time.
License azzlications Nos 402 & 403 were read for the first time and ordered to
take the prescribed course.
License applications Nos 398, 399, 400 & 401, first read August 5th were read
for the second time and no objections appearing, licenses were ordered gran�ea.

Peters "On Sale Beer & eine" license at 114 East Elm Street was received from
the State Board of ;qualization.
The recorimendation of the Recreation Commission that.Avid Pauly be appointed
Director of Recreation at certain salary and auto allowance was approved after
changing the salary allowance to $233.30 per month in lieu of 82,8CC.00 per
year, leaving the auto allowance at.*10.00 per month , by the adoption of
:esolution.NO. 11ii•3, introduced by Councilman Finn, Cof field second and carried
unanimously.
Darrell Jacob .Milson, on application, was granted leave of absence for duration
of the war and for six months thereafter on motion of Councilman Coffield, Rina
second, 1r 'Jils&n having entered the united States armed forces.
On recommendation of the Mayor concurred in by all Councilmen, the City Clerk
was directed to again notify the Southern Pacific Company of the deplorable
condition of all crossings in the City and of Lockeford Street and request
that L aediate action be taken to render them safe for traffic.
Fred '.`L:ost, Superintendent of the Sewage Disposal Plant reported that George
G. Robles, one of the pland operators had left on vacation and had never returned.
Mr Post requested that Joseph E. Benton be aoDointed to the vacancy. The Clerk
was directed to take up the matter of Bentonts eligibility with the Personnel.
Clerk. '^r ?pst also re-sested that a rRlief operator by 3�cured so that he
and the other operatoreca,..ild have their vacations. He was informed that this
-maul! be considered later in the meeting.

Clai.,s amounting to $25,795.73 as a^proved by the Auditing Committee were
allowed on motion of Councilman 7eihe, Riggs second. The sum of $195.49 -.as
ordered deducted from the claim of Lodi Fire Department, this being for the
cost of linoleum laid down in the "lair. Street Fire House. Payment of the sum
so deducted was referred to the Cor aittee on Public Health and Safety for its
reco=endatiors.
.Fire Chief Earl gay was allowed payment on a mileage -basis for the months
of July and Aug_st pending establishment of a monthly rate or the purchase of
a car•for his use by the City.
Councilman Rinn stated that R.E.Coker has complained to his of acts of
vandalism originating from the inhabitants of camp grounds in the vicinity
of Cherokee Lane and Lockeford Street, particularly as to the breaking of
windows.
It appearing that the ir-ainence of the congested harvest season wogld
require more intensive policing of such camp grounds both from safety and
sanitary standpoints, the City Clerk was directed to communicate with the
San Joaquin Eealth District and -the City Chief of Police and reepest that
close attention be paid to these premises, particularly by (request inspect—
ions and enforcement of applicable laws and ordinances.
On motion of Councilman P.iggs, Jveihe second, Hr James R. Pullen was
appointed a member of the Board of Review, Personnel System, to fill the
vacancy created by the death of George L. Steele.
At 9:18 o'clock P.M. the City Council was resolved into Committee of the
Whole and the room cleared; at 11:37 o'clock P.M. open session was resumed.
Resolution No 1141+1 as prepared by the City Attorney, authorizing the
Mayor to sign and the City Clerk to attest a contract with Foster & Wood
Canning Company for the disposal of screened cannery wastes was introduced
on motion of Councilman Coffield, Rinn second and adopted by the following
vote:
AYES: Councilmen Coffield, Rinn, Riggs,?+eihe and Bull
NOES: Councilmen, None.
ABSENT: Councilmen, None.
On motion of Councilman Rinn, Weihe second, the City Attorney was directed
to present the contract mentioned in P.esolution No 1144 next above to the
proper officers of Foster & mood Canning Company and state to the said officers
in the name of the City Council, that this contract must be executed by them
and said Company or the placing of cannery wastes in the City's sewer and
storm drain lines must cease at once.

seconded by Councilman 9eihe and passed ar_d•adopted by the following vote:

XM/OR SA"iY TO BE PAID TO CERTAIN WLOYr—ES NAUM THEREIN.
,M -FI EAS, in accordance with the provisions of paragraph (e) of Section
Section 4 of Ordinance No 276, the Personnel Clerk has prepared and submitted
a "Salary and :lage Plan” for consideration by this City Council and by the
Board of Trustees of Lodi Public Library, and,
=Es.S, this City Council after due deliberation, finds and determines
that certain alterations should be made in the said plan as submittsd, there—
fore,
B3 IT RESOLVED, that from and after the first day of September, 1942,•
the minumum and maximum salaries and wages paid by the City of Lodi in the
following r_B.-ned positions in the classified service shall be as hereinafter
stated, furthermore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the compensation paid the hereinafter specifically
named employees of this City, from and after the first day of September,1942
shall be the monthly wage set opposite their respective names.
