The City Council of the City of Lodi con-r=ned in regular session at
8:00 o'clock P.Y. at the place and on the date first above in these min-
utes written, Councilmen Bull, Graffigna, Riggs, itieihe and Mayor Steele
present, none absent.
The minutes of the last meeting held June 4, 1941 were read, approv-
ed as read and so endorsed by the Mayor.
PUBLIC HEARINGS:
Theodore Helmle personally presented and filed with the Council, a
petition bearing fifty-five signatures, praying that 'est Pine Street be
orened from Crescent avenue to such a westerly termination as the Council
might deem feasible. At the order of the Mayor, the petition was referred
to the Committee on Streets for consideration and report an any action
that might to them seem necessary.
F.:r Frank H. Cordway asked the Council to waive a charge of $250.00
for extending water, sewer and electric service to 401 East Lockeford
Street, later agreeing to pay $125.00. Consideration of this matter was
laid over to come up under head of new business later in the evening.
Yrs Theodore Suess presented and filed a petition asking the repeal
of Ordinance No. 271 relating to the hours and times for the sale of un-
cccked meats. The petition bore the names ten dealers in these products.
Mayor Steele su;gested that tk[e Co=ittee on Public Health and Safety
contact all fresh -meat dealers in the City with a view to amending_the
ordinance so as to provide for a 7":00 o'clock week -day closing time in
lieu of the present 6:CO P.1.dead line, leaving the Sunday closing as
now existing. Mr I.W.Loewen stated that the ordinance was working out
satisfactorily at present. Mrs Suess addressed the Council in rebuttal
of :r Loewen.

Application by letter of Paul Nesbit Jr for permission to solicit
property owners for curb numbering of their premises was granted.
A letter from Peat,Yarwick k ?:itchell requesting leave to submit a
proposal for the City's annual audit was read.
Southern Pacific Company, by its General Superintendent, offered to
participate to the extent of $4.400 in the construction of a storm drain
along the Easterly line of its main lire right-of-way from Lockeford St
to the Yokelumne River for the pur-pose of disposing of not oily storm
waters, but also saline waters from car-precooling points in the City.
On recogmendstion of City Engineer Clinton Henning and on motion of
Councilmen ;reihe, Graffigra second and carried, the Council decided to
co-operate with the Southern Pacific Company in this structure, direct-
ing that plans be made and a form of contract be prepared for later
submission to both interested parties.
On recc=endation of Fire Chief Earl May and on motion of Councilman
Bull, Riggs second, and carried the wages of fire truck drivers Blatt Sherman,
John E.Baker, Frank R.Buell, Jesse W. Landback, M.R.Channell, Charles Sherman
and Bert Wilson were increased to $160.00 per month, effective beginning
July 1, 1941, 1:r bray's letter stating that this increase was necessary on
account of the difficulty of obtaining trained men during the national
emergency, during which, it would be necessary that these men be put on
a twenty-four hour call basis.

Applications for business licenses of Dan Tonn Jr and Richard Wagers
were granted.
Three claims for damage to painted or stuccoed walls of dwellings
caused by road oil were referred to the City Clerk with instruction to
ascertain if the City was protected therefrom by insurance.
One ar lication for liquor license was received from the State Board
of Equalization for premises to be located at 121 N.Cherokee Lane.
Anuumulation of gasoline tax funds for major streets until such a
time as a budget could be prepared was authorized by the adoption of
Resolution No. 1081 passed by unanimous vote of all members of the Council.
Plan and profile together with specifications for construction of
curbs, gutters and drainage structures on portions of 'Rest Oak Street,
.Vest Walnut Street and South Sunset Avenue in Hutchins Homestead No. 3
were approved, the work to be done at the cost of the property owner
under contracts to be approved by the City Council.
At this time, (9.45 o'clock P.M.) Mayor Steele was excused, handing
the gavel to Councilman Otto A. 6tieihe, who conducted the meeting until
adjournment.
In the matter of Frank H. Cordway's oral application for recission
of his agreement to pay $250.00 for connection to public services or for
modification of the same as mentioned earlier in the meeting; it was
directed that work cease in extending these services until the amount of
its cost as determined by Superintendent of Public Utilities J.A.Henning,
i.e. $250.00, was deposited with the City.
The City 3 giaaer outlined a proposed routing for the removal of a
two-storey frame dwelling from the Northeast corner of Church & Oak Streets
to a new location on :Vest Lockeford Street, outside the City. The Council
ordered that the applicant submit his su_gested routing in detain; that
an estimate of the City's costs be made up and the amount deposited with
the City before the building was moved on to City streets.
.Y.B.Carlock's application for a pointment as nicht-watchman at Hale
Park was denied, the Council deeming that such protection would not be
required until August or September.
On motion of Councilman Graffigna, the Council adjourned at 10:30
o'clock P.M.

The foregoing minutes of a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of Lodi were read at a
subsequent meeting of said City Council held on
the 2nd day of July, 1941 and approved without
correction or addition.
