HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - August 21, 194021 COUNCIL CH94EERS - - CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY Or^ LODI .MDRESMY, AUGUST 21, 1940 The City Council of the City of Lodi met in regular session at 8:00 o'clock P.1`.. at the place and on the date first above written, Councilmen Bull, Graffigna, Riggs, Weihe and Steele present, none absent. The minutes of the last regular meeting held August 7th,1940 and of the meet- ing adjourned therefrom held August 13, 1940 were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Meyor. ,.:r Robert H. Boynton represent- ing the Board of Trustees of Lodi Public Library being present, Kr Rinn presented the annual report of the Library Board accompanied by its annual budget for the year 1940-41. The report was received and the budget request ordered to stand submitted for future consideration. Chief of Police Tackson reported orally to the Council in regard to the roller-skating ring conducted on South Stockton Street, concerning which, a petition of protest had been filed with the Council on August 13th, stating that the place was orderly and that the principal cause of dissatisfaction :was from noisy automobiles outside the skating rink. The application of Prentice Taxi Cab Company for a permit to operate taxi -cab service coming on to be heard, no persons appeared in protest and the Clerk reported no written objections had been filed with him. on notion of Scuncilman Weihe, Graffigna second and carried, the Clerk was directed to issue a permit upon the permittee filing the indemnity insurance policies re;iirad by Sectior. 5 of Ordinance No. 268. A letter Has received from the Division of Fli t' :ways setting forth the actual allocations of gasoline tax moneys for the fiscal year ended June 30th end estimating the moneys to accrue for the year ending Tune 34 1941. T'.^e call for the annual meeting of the Community Welfare Council to be held august 28, 1940 was read. Aids on Stadium Flood Light Reflectors opened August 7th were again con- sidered by the Council, the City Migineer recommending that the bid of the X-3stinghcuse Electric Supply Company be accepted as being the only bid that fully complied with the specifications. On motion of Counoilnan Rigs, ifelhe second, and carried by unanimous vote, all bids were declared rejected and the Council elected to purchase the reflectors in the open market. On motion of Councilman Riggs, Weihe second, the purchase of these reflectors was referred to a committee consisting of Councilman Bull, City Bngineer Henning and'Layor Steele to buy the same at the best price obtainable, proposals to be considered up to Noon of Friday, August 23rd, when award would be made. Cne notice of an application for liquor license was received from the State Board of Equalization, that of K. Kikumura, 36 N. Main Street. No objection offered. License applioations Nos 202 to 206 inclusive were granted, license No. 206 on the condition that it be approved by the Chief of Police. The Clerk was instructed not to pay for certified birth certificates of one rolice officer and one electric lineman. The Council decided to receive proposals for renewal of the City's motor vehicle liability policy at its meeting September 4th and the Clerk was instructed to so notify local insurance agencies. On the recom=mendation of Superintendent of Public Utilities, John A. ?lea=sing, the execution of an agreement with Ray L. Blais for an exchange of land required to straighten South Lee Avenue for curb and gutter work was authorized. On motion of Oouncilman Weihe, the City Council then adjourned.
