Pursuant to the adjournment regularly taken from
he ^.^eetins of =`ist 7, 194.0, the City council met st
d:00 o'clock P.:. Tuesday, Au_ust 15, 1940, Councilmen
Bull, 0raffi-ns., '+oeihe and Steele present, none
absent.
A petition si toed by C. Broiehl end others,
pretesting azainst the operation of a skating rink at
741 south stoc ;on street was received and ordered referred
to the Oon ittee on ublic P-ealth and safety.

On the a,rli'ation of J. A. Henning and on motion
of 'ezncilman uraffinna, seconded by Councilman "eihe, the
Clerk was directed to abate the three dollar connection
charge to rresent customers of the Pacific 'Gas and slectric
.or'pany chan_nin- over to city lines in order to induce
them to make the change and thereby do away with duplication
o: poles and wires inside the City.
Cr: motion of Councilman Aeihe, seconded by Council-
man -- s, the superintendent of Public Utilities was
authorized to install a drinking fountain in the Old Salem
School Grounds.
On motion of Oouncilman Bull, seconded by Council-
man '3raffi na, the turchase of linoleum for the East side
fire house was authorized.
Clinton r-enning stated that the stadium was
nearing completion and consideration should be liven to the
rurchase of toilets ani other plumbing fixtures. He
estimated the cost of these at about 151,500 but stated that
they may be purchased for as little as 51,250. At the order
of the - _,or, the Committee on finance was directed to
consult with the City •Ergineer and report their rindinzs
at the hu :s`, 21, 1540 meeting.
