The regular meeting of the City Council of the
City of Lodi was called to order by the _,mayor at b:00
o'clock z".. o: ,,etnesday, xuust 7, 1940. Councilmen_,

absent.
The minutes of the last meeting held July 17, -L,0
were read, ac_ roved as read and so endorse: by the _.:a: -or.

organizations, asked that the Council take immediate action
on the matter of =ranting free swimming pririlepres for
children of school are, statins that a method had been

school cards, such free swims to be allowed at all times
except on Saturdays, Sur_ .a;y s and holidays. At the order of

A petition protestin against the operation of
a concrete block plant at x:.15 .oath_ Sacramento Street signed
by eleven resi_ents was rresented and read. The natter was

had asked for an opportunity to be heard. -
Councilman i --s stated that he had received
complains regardinc a dry yard operated bysioreci on
mouth Sacname to Street immediately South of the Pacific
?as and ;lectr_c Com'an7's las tanks. The alleged nuisance
was caused by sulphur fumes mostly, but it was stated that
there was also an open earth toilet and the Clerk was directed
to notify the Inspector of the San Joaxin Local Health
District to abate it.
In the matter of tne _ rchase of a 75 horsepowergasoline dri•renpumn, the Clerk presented proj:er affidavits
of publication and the Council proceeded to open and
declare the three bids received, that of the Fomona :urap
Corfan;, =ogre Souipment Co pang and of the Horning Implement
Company. All bids opened beim in proper form, the same
were ordered referred to the Superintendent of Public Utilities,
City Engineer and the Committee on Public utilities on motion
of Councilman Vveihe, seconded by Councilrnan 'c-raffigna. These
to report their findings at an adjourned meeting to be held
at t:DC o'clock P.E. on '=uesday, Au_ust 13, 1940.
This also being the time set by notice, due
publication of which was established by affidavit, the
Council _proceeded to oder and declare the nine bids received,
the same being from General Electric Supply 'orporation,
Graybar slectric Company, C. n. carter Company, The .nlectric
Corporation, slectric zquipment Company, Emery and Brown
Llectric, House and Le'roe Co^_any and .i estir_ahouse alectric
and Supply Company. All bids opened being in regular form
they were referred to the same committee as that to whom
the pump bids had been referred.
