HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - April 17, 1940--1—:- T _ -T __ y-B.DAESDAY, APRIL 17, 194.0 This regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi was called to order by the r'ayor at 8:00 o1clock P.M. of April 17, 1940. Councilmen Bull, Graffijna, Riggs, ti'+ei.he and zteele present, none absent. The minutes of the statutory meeting held April 15, 1940 were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor. ,r. G. W. Duncan of Duncan -Jones Cornpany addressed the Council in regard to the City's recent purchase of a pumping plant. A letter was read from the A. F. harrison Company relating to the business recently conducted by the late A. F. Harrison, Public Accountant and the same was referred to the Finance Cormittee. The notice of the annual competition for sews.Se works plants was received from the California sewage Vlorks Association but at the suggestion of the City Engineer and on motion of Councilman Bull seconded by Councilman veihe, it was decided not to enter the city plant this year. Carlos A. Purdy was permitted to install a pay telescope at Lake Park such installation to continue at the pleasure of the -Board. The application of John h. Biller for the position of caretaker at the stadium was read and ordered filed. The City Engineer, Clinton Henning asked for an additional appropriation for the next three months amounting to $1,110.00 to apply on stadium construction. On motion of Councilman Bull, seconded by Councilman o,eihe, the application was granted and he was ordered to proceed with the work. The Clerk read the proposal of the Gaither Lime u Fertilizer Comnany for the purchase of surplus sludge from the sewage disposal plant at x;1.00 per ton. The application was ordered submitted. Three applications for business licenses No. 165, 166 and 167 were allowed and licenses ordered granted. On motion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by Councilman nig:-s, the Clerk was directed to advertise for bids for a new pump under specifications to be prepared by the Superintendent of Public Utilities. At the recorur:endation of the City Engineer, the Clerk was directed to advertise for a new chlorinator to be used at the sewage disposal plant. This was done on motion of Councilman Riggs, seconded by Councilman Weihe. Mayor G. M:. Steele addressed the Council in regards to the enforcement of the dog licensing ordinance and particularly that portion which prohibits licensed dogs from running at large in the City. lou Wednesday,, April 17, 1940 ontinued A letter was received from the Recreation Commission notifying the Council that Lir. Clifford B. Bull had resigned on account of his election to the City Council and on motion of Councilman Vieihe, seconded by Councilman Graffigna and carried Lir. Wiley Jones was appointed to fill out the unexpired term of Mr. Bull. A discussion was held on the proposal of Lir. Kenneth L. Lobaugh that the City lease the old Salem School grounds for recreational purposes particularly for smaller children which was referred to the Conirittee on Parks for their recommendations at the next regular meeting. ,uayor Jteele stated that the Bethel Tabernacle had applied for permission to conduct a camp meeting ground at Lockeford and California Streets and the matter was ordered laid over until the next regular meeting in order that neighboring property owners might have a chance to voice their objections if any. T'he Council was called into executive session at 10:17 o'clock P.M. returning to open session at 10:35 o'clock P.M. when adjournment was had on motion of Council- man Weihe. ATTEST: i Clerk.
