HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - May 15, 1939113 CC := = T'_3ERS -- CITY 001)-. -CIL MCND"` , MAY 15, 1939 The City Council of the City of Lodi met at 8:00 o'clock P.M. on the day and at the place first above written, Councilmen Clark, Graffigna, Spooner, Weihe and Steele (Mayor) present, being all of the members of the said City Council. The minutes of the last meeting held May 1, 1939 were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor. Ur A. H. Bull addressed the Council, voicing his desire to have the street line§ determined for a street to be located between Lots 11 & 12 In Live Oak Colony No. 1 so that he could build a dwelling facing such a street. `_ir C. A. Posy protested against the closing of the "loading zone" r_sintained by him in front of No. 7 N. School Street. It appearing that this instance nes part of a large problem in regard to loading spaces in the business district meriting careful consideration, he was informed that no action could be taken at this time nor until a policy was form- ulated in regard to loading zones. At this time, the Council proceeded to canvass the bids received for the purchase of two automobiles for the Police Department, such bids being as follows: - L. G.. Plymouth, Road King 597.15 At the su::gestion of the L:ayor, all bids were ordered submitted for con- sideration by the Council. A letter vias received from the City of Turlock inviting the Council to view that city's new sewage disposal plant to be opened Kay 25th Statements of accruals of gasoline tax funds to Major Streets and to State Highways for the biennium ending Tune 30, 1939 dere received from the Division of Highways and ordered filed. A petition signed by many of the local merchants asking that Ordinance No. 221 be repealed and another ordinance enacted to prohibit itinerant vendors, was received and ordered laid over for future consideration A plications Nos 53 to 57 inclusive for business licenses were approved and licenses ordered granted on motion of Councilman Graffigna, Spooner second. Earl leay, Chief of the Fire Department, presented specifications as drawn by h4•- covering a quadruple combination fire engine and equipment to be pur- chased and the same were approved and adopted as the specifications under which advertisement for bids and purchase of the equipment would be had by the adopt- ion of Resolution No. 996, introduced by Councilman Graffigna and carried by the assenting votes of all members of the City Council. City Attorney Glenn 'Test presented a proposed ordinance governing traffic within the grounds of Lodi Lake Park and on motion of Councilman Clark, seconded by Councilman Graffigna, this ordinerce numbered No. 252 and entitled" AN ORDINANCE D3TEHIDTING THAT THE P7HOLE OF LODI LAKE PARK IS A PUBLIC PLAYGROUND AND PLACE OF PUBLIC ASSELSLAGE, THAT ALL THE h7GTrXAYS AND DRIVEWAYS IN SAID PARK PASS PLACES OF PUBLIC ASSMMLEGE AND THROUGH SUCH PUBLIC PLAYGRODNDS, FIXING A PRIbIA FACIE SPEM LIL71T UPON SAID HIGHViAYS AND DRIV0,1aYS AND PRMDaTG A PENALTY FOR VIOLAT- ION TF5_RE1OF " was introduced, read at length by the Clerk and ordered laid over until the next meeting of the City Council. Motion carried unanitmoualy. Yr ;Nest also presented an ordinance to be numbered Ordinance No. 253 and entitled " AN ORDINANCE AC-12TDIIIG SUBDIVISICK 1 OF SECTION 2 OF ORDINANCE NO. 161, AND PROVIDING FOR THE' TILS FOR FOLDING REGULAR 1,=TINGS OF THE LODI CITY X-MMIL " and the same was introduced an motion of Councilman Spooner, seconded by Councilman Graffigna, read at length by the clerk and ordered laid over until 114 M „1TY IL -.T T - I w the next meeting of the City Council, motion carried unanimously. Complaint having been filed in regard to the condition of Cherry Street, easterly from Garfield Street, the Street Superintendent was instructed to investigate. On motion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by Councilman Ueihe and carried, claims in the amount of $9,830.99 as approved by the 1Cinance Comr„ittee were allowed and warrants ordered drawn in payment t::e roof . A complaint regarding the floors at Lodi Armory was referred to Councilman Graffigna for his recoxmlendation. Vr T. A. Henning, Superintendent of Public Utilities, stated that the Student Council of Lodi Union High School would furnish materials to the amount of $390.00 for lighting the tennis courts at the school if the City would install the lights and furnish the current necessary and od motion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by the Mayor, 1,:r Henning was authorized to do the work. Lodi Soft Ball Association filed its monthly report of financial transactions for April, the first month of the season of 1939, and copies were furnished each Councilman. On motion of Councilman Clark, seconded by Councilman Tdeihe and carried, Superintendent John A. Henning was authorized to install a system of flood lights at Lodi Lake Park. On motion of Councilman Weihe, the City Council then adjourned. \ J• F.
