This regular meeting of t#e City Council of the City of Lodi was called
to order by the Mayor at 8:00 o'clock P.M. on Monday, April 17, 1939, Council-
men Clark, Graffigna, Spooner, Yeihe and Steele present, being all the members
of the City Council.
The minutes of the last meeting held April 3, 1939 were read, approved
as read and so endorsed by the rayor.
?r Thomas Rendall addressed the Council on the nAcessity of additional
tennis courts.
Mr G. W. Kelm asked that the City Council fix hours and prices for the
conducting of beauty shops in the City and filed a petition signed by many
beauty shop operators.
Yr Spud Puller appeared in behalf of the continuance of the dance permits
over premises leased by his firm. None of the permit holders were present.
The quarterly reports of the City Treasurer and of the City Clerk for
the quarter ended March 31, 1939 were received, read and ordered filed.
Ordinance No. 251 entitled, " AN OP,DINANCB A�r?ROVING THE Ab'IW=10N OF
'BECKMAN ADDITION" having been regularly introduced on April -Z,.`IJ39, was '
brought up for passage on motion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by Council-
man 19eihe, seconf reading omitted by unanimous consent, and finally passed,
adopted and ordered to print by the following vote.:
AYES: Councilmen, Graffigna, Weihe, Clark, Spooner and Steele (Mayor)
NCES. Councilmen, Nome. ABSENT: Councilmen, None.
The Mayor then approved the ordinance and signed the same.
Applications for business licenses Nos. 41 to 50 inclusive were ordered
granted on motion of Councilman Weihe, seconded by Councilman Graffigna.
The Clerk was directed. to look into the legality of the wrecking -
business conducted at No. 1 West:Lockeford Street and on the vacant lots
on N. Washington Street near the Southern Pacific tracks and notify the
operator to discontinue any car wrecking business thereon. The Chief of
Police was directed to institute proceedings to abate the nuisance existing
on Lots 2,3,4 & 5, Block 33 of Lawrence Homestead Addition.
Claims in the emount of $332.40, numbered 33910-20 as approved by the
auditing committee were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Coulicilman
Weihe seconded by Councilman Clark.
The Clerk was directed to cormunicate with the State Senator and with
the State Assemblyman in regard to Senate Bill 12 and other measures deemed
inimical to the interests of California cities and now pending in the Legis-
lature.
At 9:30 7.11. the Mayor Calle d the Council into executive session
retdrning to open session at 9:40 P.M. when adjournment was taken on motion
of Councilmen Weihe.
