HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - November 21, 193878 CcC:CIL C=ALBERS -- CITY COUNCIL :ALL -- CITY OF -..OI r OiDAY, iyOVE%:BER 21, 1538 This regular meeting of the amity Council was called to order at 8:00 o'clock P.M., Councilmen Clark, Graffigna, Spooner, eihe and Steele present, none absent. The minutes of the last meeting held november 7th were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Layor. No persons appearing at this time the order of Public Bearings was passed and the Council proceeded to hear communications and reports. A letter of inquiry was received from the Division of Highways asking the City's pleasure in the distribution of moneys in the Gasoline Tax Fund allocated to city streets. The Clerk was directed to advise the District z•ngineer that the City would have no projects to support until January or February next and ask that any program for the expenditure of this money be suspended until that time. On .*.lotion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by Councilman Spooner, the Layor was authorized to execute a sales memorandum for the purchase of liquid chlorine from the Great '.iestern Electro -Chemical Company for the year 1939. A lengthy communication from the League of California Lunicipalities stating the necessity of the League increasih; the annual dues was ordered laid over to be taken up under the head of new business later in the meeting. Two application for business licenses were allowed and ordered granted on motion of Councilman Spooner, seconded by Councilman Graffigna. On motion of Councilman Spooner, seconded by Councilman Clara and on recommendation of Councilman Weihe the Park Department was authorized to purchase a large grass catcher for use at Lawrence Park. Ordinance No. 248 entitled "AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE Sx?'.ITr.TION AND CONDUCT OF CA..P CARS AND/OR TRAILERS AND REGULATIi'iG THE SANITATION, OPERATION AND r: P:TENA::CE OF CAP GROUT -LS IN TEE CITY OF LODI AND PRESCRIBING THE PENALTY OR VIOLATION THEREOF" having been introduced at the last meeting of the Council was brought up for passage and adoption on the motion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by Councilman Weihe, second reading omitted by the same notion. This ordinance was then finally pas..ed and adopted and ordered to print by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen, Graffigna, Weihe, Clark, Spooner and Steele. NOES: Councilmen, None ABSENT: Councilmen, None The r..ayor then approved and signed the ordinance. A Petition for street lights in Kessel Subdivision was received and after zone discussion Councilman Spooner sug_ested that this project be laid over until it could be connected up with the present street lighting system on South School Street. Superintendent of Public Utilities, John k. Henning suggested that the expenditure of money for the installation of about sixty intersection lights at the cost of '1:2000.00 might be more important than placing street lights in several of the subdivisions in ivhich petitions had been filed. Glenn gest spoke concerning an a_plication rade to hi-- byGerard Hutchins for extension of water and sewer services j',est of Cranoe Avenue stating that hr. -Hutchins would advance the cost of materials if he could be reimbursed for the same if and when the same should be annexed to the City. The City Clerk stated that there was some agitation for the annexation of territory which might be extended to include the Hutchins Subdivision and he was directed to report on this matter at the next meeting. Yr. J. A. Henning br-ught up the application of 'I%illiam Benedict, B. Tempel and J. 'rv. Koenig for the extension of water and sewer services and he was authorized to purchase materials to the value of t?400.00 for such extensions. .�r. Clinton Henning and Mr. John a penning reported orally to the Council on work done in their depart- ments in the last two weeks. Claims in the amount of `„342.50 were allowed against the special gasoline tax fund for Tokay and Church Streets and for 5221.10 against the General r'und for mid- month payroll. No further business appearing the Council adjourned on motion of Councilman Graff igna, none dissenting.
