MONDAY, MAY 2, 1938.
The City Council of the City of Lodi met in
regular session at 8:00 o'clock P.M. of Monday, May 2, 1938.
Councilmen Clark, Graf fina, Spooner, iieihe and Steele
present, none absent.
The minutes of the last regular meeting and of
the special meeting held April 26, were read, approved as
read and so endorsed by the Mayor.
Mr. :rank A. Henning saying that he represented
several campground owners who would like a hearing before
the Council on the proposed ordinance restricting the
occupancy of land for campground purposes, addressed the
Council and at the suggestion of the Mayor, Lr. Henning
was asked to brief his objections to the proposed ordinance
and make any suggestions as might occur to him, filing the
same with the City Clerk, a hearing would then be held in
the City Council beginning at 7:30 o'clock P.N. of Monday,
May 16, 1938.
Messrs. Ed Ensminger and Fred C. Bender appealed
to the City Council for a remedy of the alleged nuisance,
occasioned by a motorcycle stadium being erected on North
Main street. They were promised that the Council would make
the necessary investigation. Mr. Bender also asked that the
City Council enact an ordinance placing an occupational
license tax on contractors. The ALayor suggested that he
have representatives of the contractors meet with the Committee
of the Lodi Business Mien's Association and formulate a
schedule of fees to be suggested for a license ordinance.
John Nitschke again appeared before the Council
in the matter of the opening of Olive Court, First Street
and Lincoln Avenue. He was told to get the persons
interested to agree to future street lines and submit their
proposals to the City Engineer.
A letter was received from F. E. Cooper in regard
to the mowing of the various city lawns and on motion of
Councilman Lrraff igna, seconded by Councilman Clark, Mr.
Cooper was authorized to employ a man for not more than
one month at 50 an hour to try out the plan.
The City Clerk submitted the written report of
Lir. Albert B. Mann in regard to remedying the acoustical_
defects in the local National Guard Armory. As this
building is leased to the State of California, the Clerk
was directed to correspond with Captain Charles F. white
and see if the State could or would participate in paying
the expenses necessary to remedy the same.
Mr. Hobert Y. Channell, fire inspector, reported
several improper installations of gasoline storage tanks.
The Clerk was instructed to serve notice on all persons
affected that these defects should be corrected at once.
The report of the Chief of Police for the month
of April was received, read and ordered filed.
On notion of Councilman Spooner, seconded by
Councilman ""eihe and at the suggestion of the Mayor,
the Clerk ::as directed to draw checks in the amount of $5.00
each payable to the winners of the poster contest held
during "Air Mail Week".

Four applications for business licenses Nos.
9075 to and including 9078 sere allowed and ordered granted.
Councilman Graffi`na submitted a request of the
local fire department that large letters L V F D and other
lettering be placed on the front of the two fire houses.
No action taken.
Thirteen building permit applications Pio. 2039
to and including 2051 for structures to cost x;29,950 were
allowed and permits ordered granted,
Claims approved b the Finance Cormnittee Foos.
W-43 to and including 3171 in the total amount of
,656.72 were allowed and ordered granted on motion of
Councilman Clark, seconded by Councili:_an :yeihe.
At this time the Mayor announced that the standing
committees of the Board as existing s:ould be reappointed
without charge.
After some discussion in regard to the appointment
of a Building Inspector, the Council was called into
executive session at the order of the Yaor at 10:23 o'clock
P.M. returning to regular session at 10:48 o'clock
P. id. when adjournment was had at the order of the Mayor,
none dissenting, to 7:30 o'clock P.P.i, of Dr onlay, Xay 16, 1938.
