This rerg'lar meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi held begin-
ning at 8:10 o'clock kDST of Wednesday, September 20, 1950, Councilmen 3u11,
Haskell, rreszler, Rica and Tolliver present, none absent. pity Lenager Weller
and City Attorney Glenn :Jest absent.
The minutes of the last -meeting held September 6th Isere apvroved as
written, copies having been mailed each Councilman prior to this meeting.

The City Council considered appointments to the Board of Plumb-
ing ataminers from a list of Lester and Journeymen Plumbers
prepared by the Plumbing Inspector and submitted through the
City Manager after accepting the resignation of Fire Chief
George D. Polenske mho had been serving on this Board at the
request of the City Council. On motion of Councilman Baskell,
Bull second U G. G. Blast, LA$ter /'lumber and Reinhold Weber
and J. E. Leicht, Journeymen Plumbers were appointed to fill
existing vacancies caused by the above resignation and the
removal from Lodi of N. C. LPrrie and 31gene Howell.
Lr C. R. Leckler, acting Superintendent of Streets and /arks
reported by letter on the feasibility of installing sidewalks
along the north side of Lockeford street, sacramento Street to
central Avenue. On account of the narrow right of may -from
Stockton Street to -the Southern Pacific min line tracks, it
gas directed that the City Eagineerfs office investigate the
possibility of acquiring extra width in this section of street.
It appearing in discussions relating to East Lockeford Street
that the City of Lodi owned some 800 feet fronting on Lockeford
Street and about 124 feet on Washington south of the American
t.egdon Building, Councilman Bull moved, Haskell second, that
the City call for proposals for laying sidewalks along City
owned property...ation carried.
Councilman Fasicell called attention to inadequate lighting of
the intersection of Lockeford and Dashington Streets and the
City LW-nager was requested to have the Public Utility Depart-
ment arrange better lighting.
'^:e acting City Manager presented a tabulation of informal
bids received for the construction of the Cross -Lake Street
storm sewer, bid rejected xug;xst 16th by Resolution No. 1549
with a finding that this worms could be more econo^ically per-
formed by day labor or informal contract. Claude C. Wood Co.
bid *5939.25 and Y irle-,a-^dt $5176.50. In accordance with the
authority conferred by the above resolution, amend was made
to Burkhardt and a contract executed.
No action was taken on the application of Southern pacific
Conran; for permission to alter tracks in Oak and Walnut Streets,
that conpagy having so far failed to maks a firm commitment
for improvement of the Tokay Street Crossing.

representing the Craffignas. Councilman Rizm offered his
brood offices in an endeavor to secure a settlement.

informed of the detaihs of the contracts offered in such
cases. CounciL-nn Ball stated that he understood that
these contracts are to be $100.00 for clean-up plus the
10yr head tax.

TRA-VFIC City Clerk Blakely stated that the recd-:me dation of the '
YATCr- Safety Council had been addressed to the City Langer and
that LW Weller had answered it in detail, stating his
objections to motorcycles for police work and results of
his investigations of such use in other cities, leaving
the way open for the Safety Council to advance further I
sustaining arguements. LA7or Tolliver stated that he had
