PUBLIC .;;d
:his being the time and place to vbich the hearing on rent
control had been continued from August 16th, i13.yor-1.olliver
called for oral testimony from the audience. -.rs Aurora
De vela argued that Lodi is a home o.min3 ca.-:mmnity with
.T a normal lour percentage of vacant rental premises and that
DECW,IRCd. he present percentage of vacancy is in excess of the
average, also, that landlords desired Wore to be free from
the red tape of government control rather than to be allowed
increased rents.
__o other persons addressing the Council, the :mayor stated
that so far no evidence had been submitted that vrould justify
the City Council in moving for decontrol -'of rents.
This ma ter was then passed, a-parently tabled without
pre J
udice, and the Council proceeded to consideration of
the application of Lehrer & Son for increase in bus fares.
euben :.sheer stated that Lodi Transit system, operated
by-nd_ecr Lb -h=er and afaaelf ,as not earning even verges
for its owners and that therefore, they had requested a
INOR43SE IF. fare increase from the present 10¢ fare to 150. ie said
BUS F* -W that they contemplated issuing car --mutation books for
:-ice E SON. steady Patrons at eight tares for $1.00 for adults and
for children twelve years of age and younger at forty
fares Por $3,00. :.ahrer repeated his offer to return to
y the 1W fare when riders increased to 200 per day. City
Al'. r. ::onager a[eller su gested that this latter offer be based
Y on gross fare receipts and :.r ehrer substituted " that
—..y when gross receipts reached *55.00 per day per bus, that
is, (;90.00 pen: day for the two busses in operation R
i
Councilman 3n11 asked that the bus line make a quarterly
financial report to the City Council so that fare adjustments
could be made if and when the gross income justified them.
it was then agreed that these statements and suzgestions be
reduced to writing in the form of av agreement by the City
Attorney and that bus fares be increased to 150 per single
ride effective September 18, 1950.
