Regular meeting City Council of the City of Lodi beginning at 8:00 P.L"
of Wednesday, May 3, 1950; Councilmen Bull, Haskell, Preszler, Rinn and
Tolliver (1hyor) present, none absent.
?:inutes of the statutory required meeting of April 18th and of the regular
meeting of April 19th, 1950 were approved as written, copies having been mailed
each Councilman prior to this meeting.

In the matter of the widening of a portion of Pleasant Avenue from
tUe alley 170 feet south of Pine Street to Mm Street: ter Weller
presented bids opened in accordance with published notice on :ley"l,
PLEASANT AVE recormending acceptance of the proposal of Claude C. Wood Co. in
VDINING the amount of $3,34-1.00, being 5156.75 lower than that of the
CC14TRACT only other bidder, Delta Construction Company. The City Engineer
A:APM TO reported by letter that both bids conformed with law and the
C. C. h1CCH7 specifications. On motion of Councilman Haskell, Preszler second,
av:azd was made to Claude C. Wood Company by the adoption of
Resolution No. 1523, adopted by the following vote:

NOES: Hone. ABSENT: None.
City-Anager Weller called the attention of the City Council to
the continued infractions of the ordinance prohibiting the deposit
of lawn t-i=ings, garden clippings and the like is the street
gutters, thus cloEging gutters and drains as well as hamming the

container at the rates established March 16, 1949 and also call
public attention to the illegality of throwing trash in gutters,
stating that cooperative effort between residents and the City
could easily settle this problem. Max Elson, a citizen in atten-
dance at this meeting, objected, stating that be and many others
wanted collection from curb side. The Council advised the City
Manager to see if another rate could be provided, perhaps at
25y+ or up to 409r, that would encourage deposit of this trash
at the point of garbage pick ups available during the sumer months.
:.i Weller, progress in negotiating a lease on
the property at 117 West Pine Street, lately occupied by H. E.
WAHAF"Fr.Y Lbbaffey, for off-street parking, stating that Ldahe fey, lessee

r0 T-STR,n= term, about nine months. As the cost of preparing this lot for
PA SUNG. the contemplated use would be about $900.00, Councilman Rina
suggested that the City obtain a cocm3ittment from the owners
guaranteeing at least six months extension of the lease at such
terms as night be agreeable to the City. Councilman Bull stated
that he believed that the City should obtain the owners option
to lease for at least one year after termination of the present
lease and other Councilman agreeing, the City ?.Tanager was directed
to seek the best terms he could obtain for this term.
The application of Mahrer & Son, operators of the local bus lines
for an additional bus stop on South School Street in front of
the Zi-me—PT, Oak Street PbPT"ecy and the reactivation of the
BUS STOPS former stop across School Street in front of National Dollar
Stares was approved on motion of Councilman Haskell, Preszler
second, subject to the confirmation of Mebrer's statement that
there was no objection from proprietors of businesses adjacent
to these two locations.

An a.plieation from Comnnity Grape Corporation whose winery is
located at the north end of Sacramento-5trcet.1for fire protection
water stand-by service was read, offering to pay $250.00 per year
for the service and all costs of connection to City mains such
service to be rendered for a three year period. Discussion was

Bull advocated a complete investigation before making any adjustment

in the City's charges in that the Board -of Fire Underwriters of the
Pacific might and probably would, require the City to add more
water supply if many more outside services were connected. It was
moved by Councilmn Hull, Preszler second, that Co=mmity Grape
Corporation be offered stand-by fire protection water service at
the same rates as now in effect applying to other outside wineries,
these rates to be investigated as to adequacy and fairness, and if
any adjustment is made, such adjustment to apply to all of this class
of service. Lbtion carried.

In connection with this relocation, Theodore Nickel, owner of
Lot 1, Gerard Tract, is to assume all cost of removing the
STORM DRAINS pavement on Lockeford Avenue, or, at his option, to leave

facing Holly Drive. Extra storm drains occasioned by this
street design over and above those which would be required
if Lockeford Avenue was not vacated, will be installed at
the City's costs, estimate $200.00.
