Councilmen Bull, FAskell, P_eszler and Tolliver ( Layor ) present,

RVORT OF THS CITY tAX�IMR:
Payment of a 15$ voluntary special assessment based on annual
dues to the League of California Cities was authorized on
D y'C7LL motion of Councilman Bull, &aske7l second. This amounts to
>SLMIT $52.50 for the City of Lodi. The purposes to be acccaaplished
by this payment, in addition to regular League activities,
T33V will allow assistance to cities in civil defense, materials
control, city -county relations, research etc.

City Lknager Weller presented the City Engineer's program for
major street reconstruction during the current year as approved
by him. This program proposes expenditure from state @.sbline
taxes accruing to $44,989.40 for the following projects:

Applications ordered submitted to the District Engineer, Divis-
ion of Highways as the City*s budget and the preparation of
project statements to be formally approved by the City Council
on submission, motion Councilman Haskell, Preszler second.
LCC[- During discussion of the foregoing street improvement program,
DITSCTN. improvement of the Chuxch-Lockeford Street i;xtersection was
_CE brought up, particularly as to impaired sight clearance. Also,
SDE- as to what had delayed installing sidewalks on East Lockeford
Street, Washington Street East and Washington Street North to'
complete the walk laid by the American Legion.
ICATIMM Specifications for a tractor -loader, substituted for part of
3 -LOA. - the budget appropriation for a grader, for use of the street
?TED. department, were approved and notice to bidders ordered pub-
lished on motion of Councilman Hull, Haskell second.
On the report and recommendation of the City 8lariuing Commiss-
ion, a variance from the strict application of the provisions
of Ordinance No. 238 relating to rear yard space was granted
X OF to Ted Schneider as applying to the lot on the southwest
ZMDER corner of Walnut Street and Crescent Avenue. Mtion Councilman
). 11skell, Bull second. This allows a five foot technical. rear
AM yard, now practically side yard, as the building will face to
T. Crescent Avenue and not to Walnut Street although the uniform
set back from the latter street will be preserved.
A Petition signed by Eeiil Klapstein and fifty four others,
N not verified, vas read by the City hanger. This petition
OF requests that Fairmont Avenue be opened and improved between
T AVE Oak and Pine Streets. The petition makes no recommendation
'INE as to payment for costs. Ordered laid over pending results
1. of continued negotiations with Glenn UnUll, owner of the

'he Street Superintendent was directed to proceed to compel
HS installation of sidewalks along the south side of First in

prescribed by Chapter 27, Streets and Hig!lways Code, by the
adoption of Resolution No. 1591, introduced by Councilman
rEaskell, Preszler second and carried by unanimous vote of

Some time was spent in discussion street lighting problems,
particularly replacing concrete lighting standards with metal
ST. LIC2TS ones and moving the concrete standards to unlighted districts.'
VIOLATIONS Lfr Yeller brought up problems encountered b7 the Building Insp-
BUILDING ection Departments as regards substandard housing for resident
LAW seasonal labor. Decided that the Building Inspector prepare a
DISCUSSED list of premises where housing laws, plumbing and electrical
regulations and provisions for sanitation are violated and that
the City Council make a tour of these places in order to
determine their seriousness and plan for remedies.
Adjournment taken at 10:28 o+clock P.M. on motion of Councilman
Preszler.

of this work and is the reason for further extension.

town street intersection. Councilman Haskell suggested that all
future permits of this type be limited to a definite period.
Claims amounting to $50,415.08 as approved by the City Manager

were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Bull,
Haskell second.
