TUNIC .TIONS Letter from Mr. E. J. Crescenzi tendering his CRESCENZI resignation from the Recreation and Parks Commis - RESIGNATION sion due to the pressure of personal business. Mr. -RCM Crescenzi expressed his a^preciation to the City RECREATION Council and the City Manager for the cooperation COM -XI SSION jiven to the Recreation Commission during his term of membership. Mayor Richey expressed the sorrow of the City Council in receiving the resignation and pointed out that as a member of the Commission Pr. Crescenzi made a valuable contribution to the com- munity. On the motion of Councilman Robinson, Preszler second, the Council voted to accept the resignation with regrets and instruct the City Clerk to send a letter to Mr. Crescenzi expressing the feelings of the City Council. REPORTS OF THE CITY MANAGER The City Manager presented the tabulation of bids ::WARD received for the installation of street lights in CONTRACT FOR the South Pleasant Avenue Street Lighting District PLEASANT AVE. and in the Fairmont Avenue Street Lighting District. & FAIRN ONT Ir. both instances the bids were received and opened AVE. STREET at 4:00 p.m. on March 1, 1954. The Sacramento Elec- LIGHTS trip Works was low bidder on the Pleasant Avenue job with a bid of �10,058.CC. The low bidder for Fairmont Avenue was Collins Electric of Stockton_, California, with a bid of :6,333.00. Mr. Weller recommended that the contracts be awarded to the respective low bidders. On the motion of Council - ran Preszler, Hillman second, the Council voted RES. NOS. to adopt Resolution No. 1805, awarding the contract 1805 & 1806 for the South Pleasant Avenue Street Lighting Dis- .DOPTED trict to the Sacramento Electric ''Forks. The Council then voted to adopt Resolution No. 1806, awarding the contract for the Fairmont Avenue Street Light- ing District to the Collins Electric Comrary, on the motion of Councilman. Robinson, Hillman second. In the Natter of the request from Mr. Olwell and ALLEY the Safeway Stores for the abandonment of the alley VACATION in Block 36 (Salem School grounds), Mr. Meller BLOCK 36 reported that the City Engineer had estimated tt..e costs of relocating the sewer and water lines SAFE::rAY presently lying within the alley at ;2,530.00. STORES A letter had been received from the Safeway Stores indicating that they would be willing to pay that amount for the relocation in order to secure the complete abandonment of the alley. Febr.:ary 11, 1954, a use permit was granted 1, rLlova Owens for a dental of --a on the southeast corner of Lee !venue and 'Nest Pine Street, reason being that land in the area is o: professional use. 2. February 18, 1954, a variance was granted to the 4'estside Construction Company to permit an encroach- ment on the front yeard requirement. The variance granted a 20 -root minimum set -back with 25 feet re- quired on corner lots. Such variance will permit the staggering of houses on lots of 100 -foot depth and still allow larger rear yeard shere deeper houses are planned. Councilman Robinson called attention to the fact LEE AVENUE that Lee Street presently had a jog of several feet 'r,'IDENING from the alley north to Pine Street. He suggested that the curb on the east side of the street might be moved to widen the street north of the alley. The matter was referred to the City Engineer for report and estimate of the cost of relocation of the curb. He stated, how - PARKING ever, that they were not pleased with the parking situation. High School students were still park- ing in front of the homes in this block. Mr. Weller stated that the problem had been referred to the Student Council at the High School and they had replied that they would take action to correct the situation. At the suggestion of Councilman Robinson, the City Council agreed to refer the matter to the Student Council again and ask for their suggestions.
