LODI ARCH
Mr. Eric Woock, Chairman of the Lodi Arch Committee,
stated from the audience that Building Official W.
A. Norum and Herbert Hieb, Building Contractor and
member of the Committee, had made an investigation
of the north buttress of the arch and found it in
much the same condition as the south buttress with
rotting timbers and cracks in the stucco making
the arch a hazard. Mr. Woock then stated that the
Committee had made az estimate that it would cost
between $10-11,000 for a steel structure and be-
tween $5-0,000 to recondition the arch, recondition-
ing being recommended by the Committee. Mr. Woock
presented a letter from the Arch Committee wanting
to know if the City had accepted or would accept
ownership of the arch, as there would be certain
responsibilities in the way of liability insurance,
etc., when reconstruction was undertaken. The 'Mayor
stated that if the public showed its willingness
to have the arch restored by contributing funds,
the Council would cooperate; however, the Arch
Committee should have definite plans and raise
the money first. The matter was taken under advise-
ment until the next Council meeting.
