CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF LODI
COUNCIL CHAMBER, CITY HALL
NOVEMBER 14, 1956
Pursuant to the adjournment taken from its regular meeting
of November 7, 1956, the City Council of the City of Lodi met at
8:00 o'clock p.m. of Wednesday, November 14, 1956; Councilmen Fuller,
Hughes, Katzakian, Robinson and Mitchell (Mayor) present.
JOINT MEETING Mayor Mitchell called the meeting to order and
WITH LIBRARY introduced the members of the Library Board
BOARD to the City Council. Dr. Coffield then in-
troduced IM;iss Boynton, City Librarian, who
presented results of a survey of the Library
use carried out by .the Library staff. Copies
of the report have been furnished to each
Councilman.
Councilman Robinson asked if the present aud-
itorium in the basement of the Library could
be used as.a stock room. Miss Boynton replied
that this would not be satisfactory. In reply
to a nuestion from the Council, the Librarian
stated that they want to be able to move into
new quarters within four years.
Nr. Weller stated that if construction of the
Library were contemplated within the next two
or three years the nresent Capital Outlay pro-
gram as adopted would be running a deficit.
A means for financing the construction of a
Library was thoroughly discussed without reach-
ing an:' final conclusion. It was suggested
that an additional twelve cents per hundred
should be assessed as soon as possible in
order to start building a fund for the Library
construction. The Board explained that they
had not selected any one site for the Library.
Emerson School most nearly satisfying site
were mentioned as locations. Councilman Hughes
moved, Katzakian s::cond, that the Librarian be
authorized to proceed with arrangements for
the hiring of .a consultant to aid the Library_
staff in developing preliminary glans.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 p.m. on the
order of the Mayor.
