HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - October 9, 1958338 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF LODI COJNCIL CHAMBER, CITY HALL OCTOBER 9, 1958 This special meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi called by the Mayor in accordance with Section 54956 of the Government Code, was held beginning at 6:30 o'clock p.m. of Thursday, October 9, 1958; Councilmen Brown, Culbertson, Mitchell, Robinson and Katzakian (Mayor) present; none absent. Also present: City Manager Glaves, Administrative Assistant Brown and City Attorney Mullen, RICHFIELD Mayor Katzakian explained that the purposes of STATION this special meeting was to discuss the legal LEASE possibilities in considering the request of Mr. Lloyd Patton that the lease of Mr, Riney Bender's PARKING Richfield Service Station at Church and Pine DISTRICT Streets be extended for four months, The City N0, 1 Manager first read the letter from Mr. Patton recuesting the extension and enclosing the addi- tional payment of $400 for the use of the lot, Attorney Mullen reported his conversation with the Bonding Attorneys stating that there would be no objection to such a delay in construction of the parking lot or to the financial arrangement as offered, but that they would object to the rent- ing of the Bank lot by the City. Mr. Patton spo.:e briefly stating that they were disappointed at not 'being able to offer a substi- tute space for the Christmas shopping. Mr. John E. Hoggatt, Secretary -Manager of the Lodi District Chamber of Commerce, ad;:ed that he had discussed the oroblem with the Retail Merchants Division and other arrangements are presently being considered. Mr. Hog:=att also reported that the Division's trl.:stees had voted unanimously in favor of the requested extension. Mayor Katzakian clarified his reason for opposing the delay at the previous meeting as being strictly a question of the legality of delaying the development of the lot and the expressed desire of the merchants to pursue construction of the lots so that the space would be available in December. Those objections being now satisfied, he was in favor of going along with the request. On motion of Councilman Brown, Robinson second, the Council voted unanimously to grant Riney Bender a four months' extension on his lease of the property at the southeast corner of Pine and Church Streets.
