HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - June 24, 1959.424 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF LODI COUNCIL CITUiMBER, CITY HALL JU:'IE 24. 1959 This regularly adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi held beginning at 8:00 o'clock p.m. of Wednesday, June 24, 1959; Councilmen Culbertson, Katzakian, Mitchell, Robinson, and Brown (e-ayor) present; none absent. City 14anager Glaves, Administrative Assistant Brown, City Attorney Pullen, Planning Director Rodgers present. Mrs. Beatrice Garibaldi, City Clerk, absent. 1959-6o The City Council resumed their discussion of the BUDGET proposed 1959-60 Budget. The Manager reported on further information received concerning the Junior Chamber's request for $1,000. Councilman Robinson moved that the Council approve an appropriation of 3500. The motion died for lack of second. Councilman Robinson exD_lained that the Senior Chamber would thus make up the difference. Councilman Culbertson suggested the Chamber might not be able or want to lose the $500 and therefore coved that the reouest for $1,000 be granted and that the Chamber's budget be increased accordingly for the Rodeo and Junior Golf 'tournament. `'ouncilman Katzakian second. Councilman Robinson asked to amend the motion to eliminate any specific purpose for which the money is to be used. Amendment agreed by Culbertson and motion passed unanimously. CITY The City Engineer's Budget was approved as recommended, EtiGINEER'S the Manager pointing out that the drop in the budget BUDGET was due to the transfer of Major Street Construction funds to the Streets Budget. STREETS The Streets Budget was explained in detail with BUDGET particular mention that one employee was returning from military leave and that $30,000 included for Turner Road was the unexpended amount allocated in last year's budge;. The details of the extent of reconstruction of Turner Road were given to the Council showing varying widths between Sacramento and Laurel Avenue which will be financed jointly by the City and County. The Manager explained the proposed plans for Lockeford between Pleasant and California and Lodi east of the railroad tracks, indicating that funds were not now available from the General Fund or State Allocated Funds. Councilman Robinson urged that the City move ahead beginning now to plan the improvement of these two streets. The proposed repaving of Lockeford between Stadium Way and Cherokee Lane was explained by the Manager. Councilman Robinson moved and Mitchell seconded that Lockeford Street be eliminated from the proposed budget. Motion failed. AYES: Councilmen - Mitchell, Robinson :TOES: Councilmen - Katzakian, Brown, Culbertson The City Manager presenter the list of streets and the limits which would be resurfaced. He pointed out that the current program is a continuing one and at the speed the City is progressing it will take approximately 66 rears to resurface every street. Councilman Culbertson moved, and Katzakian second, that the program for Plant Mix resurfacing as presented by the City Manager be approved with the stipulation that Laurel Avenue not be resurfaced until a=ter curb and putter is installed. Motion carried. Passed unanimously. UTILITY The utility Budget was approved as recommended by the BUDGZT City Manaeer. PARKS & The Parks and Recreation Budget was approved as RECRB.A- recommended by the City :Manager. TION BUDGET INTROD. Councilman Robinson moved, Culbertson second, that ORD. 052 Ordinance No. 652 be introduced adopting the City of Lodi Budget for the 1959-60 fiscal year.. Passed 1959-60 unanimously.
