CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
e
AGENDA TITLE: Standardization of Positive Displacement Pumps
MEETING DATE: November 19, 1997
PREPARED BY: Public Works Director
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council standardize on "Robbins & Myers, Inc. Moyno Pumps" as
the manufacturer for all future positive displacement pumps used by City of Lodi.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi's White Slough Water Pollution Control Facility uses the
positive displacement pumps to pump sludge to the anaerobic digesters.
Presently all, but two, of the positive displacement pumps used at our facility
are Moyno pumps.
Listed below is a summary of the existing Moyno pump applications:
Location Quantity
White Slough Primary Treatment 8*
White Slough Dissolved Air Thickener 2
*The facility currently has 10 positive displacement pumps in this area.
One of the two other brands is now in need of replacement.
The City has found these pumps to be low maintenance and parts and materials are readily available in
Northern California. Our maintenance staff has extensive experience in repairing the Moyno pumps.
The Lodi Municipal Code, Section 2-58, Exemptions From Centralized Purchasing, authorizes the City Council to
standardize on specific supplies, services, and equipment. Since all but two of the existing positive displacement
pumps are Moyno pumps, it is recommended that the City standardize on the Moyno pump manufactured by
Robbins & Myers, Inc. This will be a sole source manufacturer.
For the Council's information, the City of Lodi has previously standardized on the following equipment:
-Water Meters
Fire Hydrants
Propeller Pumps & Motors
FUNDING: Sewer Utility Fund
,Traffic Signal Controllers
*Low Voltage Electrical Panels
Submersible Pumps.
