PUBLIC WORKS
Mr. Kurt Smith, Route 1, Box 52, Lockeford, repre-
senting the Lodi Junior Chamber of Commerce, presented
the Council with a written report showing that the
$500 allocated in 1965-66 had been used in an unsuccess-
ful campaign to bring the State-wide Outstanding
Young Farmer meeting to Lodi. They intended to
campaign again to get this meeting in Lodi and were
asking for $500 to help defray the cost. On motion
of Councilman Brown, Kirsten second, the Council
approved $500 fox the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
The Council then considered the Public Works budget.
I•ir. Glaves briefly mentioned the addition of a Water
and Sewer Supervisor which had been discussed at the
meeting of June 15. He said that three men should
also be added to the engineering staff in order to
keep abreast of the design work for the Capital
Improvement Program, not including the outfall line.
The positions would be Civil Engineer III, Civil
Engineer I and Engineering Fide I. The Civil Engineer
III could supervise the other draftsmen in the depart-
ment. Their work would be charged to the Capital
Improvement Proaram. If the Council does not wish to
add personnel, it will be necessary to hire consultants
to do the work. After discussion, members of the
Council were in agreement that three engineering
personnel should be added as recommended. Mr. Glaves
reported that the amount of ditching at the Sanitary
Landfill is being doubled and another equipment operator
is needed to keep abreast of the work. The Council
approved the change in operation at the Sanitary
Landfill, including the addition of another equipment
operator, resulting in a net increase of $13,176.00.
