and Kr. Mary Putnam.
FOUNTAIN FOR
i'ir. Putnam showed the Council the rendering of the
CIVIC CENMR
fountain which had been proposed by the Council at
i-iALL.
its meeting of July 12. He explained how the bubblers
worked and said there should be no problem with splash
control. He had added a tray to the center tank and
four small jets in order to make the center area the
focal point. He suggested using red, amber and
magenta lights in all three tanks, with the small jets
in the center tank being a constant color. Air. Putnam
also recommended that the pump be installed in a pump
pit under the fountain. :.fter discussion, the Council
agreed to this location and decided that the batch
for the tunnel leading to the pump should be located
in the area of the flower bed on the west side of the
City Hall. Mr. Putnam felt there would be no problem
wits wind, but said he would include sufficient con-
duit so that a wind control device could be installed
if necessary.
iir. Putnam said it would probably take an architect
four weeks to get the plans and specifications ready,
two weeks to advertise for bids, and around two months
to complete construction after award of contract.
Councilman Brown moved that the design for the fountain
as presented by Mr. Putnam be accepted, that the
fountain be located in the area staked out in the Mall,
and that Mr. Putnam be authorized to proceed. The
motion was seconded by Councilman Culbertson and
carried.
