ROLL CALL Present: Councilmen Broun, Hunnell and Kirsten(Mayor) lbsent: Councilmen Culbertson and Walton :also present: City Manager Glaves, Administrative Assistant Peterson and Planning Director Schroeder. FOUNTAIN FOR Ur. Glaves showed the councilmen the location for CIVIC CENTER the proposed fountain which had been staked out in b3ALL the Civic Center Mall area. He said that Mr. Varner, r.rchitect for the Public Safety Building, in dis- cussing the proposed fountain, had recommended that the sidewalk not be changed as it would ruin the depth of the mall. Councilman Brown said that after talking to Mr. Varner, he had come to the conclusion that the sidewalk should not be changed. Councilman Hunnell felt the present design of the fountain was too high. City Manager Glaves explained that at the previous Council -meeting Councilman Culbertson had suggested that the sidewalk curve around the fountain rather than be immediately adjacent thereto as shown on the plans, or the fountain should be scaled down in order to have some distance between it and the sidewalk. ADJOURNMUT Mr. Putnam suggested several alternates such as a weir type with water falling from one level to another, or a rectangular shape without trays, but using bubblers. He then recommended that the fountain be 12 feet wide, so as to leave some room between it and the sidewalk, and that it be designed with three square pools of different heights from 4 feet in height down to 2 feet. He suggested using red and amber lights. Public Works Director Jones felt that 4 feet was too high, also, it would look better to have the highest pool in the center. F_fter further discussion, it was moved by Councilman Brown that the City accept a fountain consisting of three tanks each 12 feet square and each with a bubbler, the center tank to be 30 inches high and the other tanks 18 inches. The motion was seconded by Councilman Hunnell and carried. qtr. Putnam is to make a rendering of the fountain and have it ready by July 17. On motion of Councilman Brown, the Council adjourned to yianday, July 17, 1967, at 5 p.m. Attest: BEATRICE GARIBALJI City Clerk - 1 - IM0
