HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - June 23, 1971427.0 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF LODI CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS JUNE 23, 1971 An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi was held beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 1971 in the City Hall Council Chambers. ROLL CALL Present: Councilmen - EHRHARDT, HUGHES KIRSTEN and KATNICH (Mayor) Absent: Councilmen - SCHAFFER Also present: City Manager Glaves, Assistant City Manager Peterson, Planning Director Schroeder and Public Works Director Jones. PLEDGE Mayor Katnich led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. BUDGET - 1971-72 COUNCIL -CLERK City Manager Glaves resumed review of the Operating Budget for 1971-72. He reviewed the Council -Clerk budget and discussed the Special Payments included in this budget. JAYCEES Mr. John Callahan, President of the Lodi Junior Chamber of Commerce, 1806 Lake Street, presented that organization's budget request. He explained that the request was for $500, the same amount as granted by the City last year. He explained that the funds would be used for the purpose of advertising and promoting the City of Lodi. On motion of Councilman Kirsten, Ehrhardt second, the City Council approved allocation of $500 to the Lodi Junior Chamber of Commerce for community promotional activities. WID The Council, on motion of Councilman Kirsten, Hughes second, approved an allocation of $500 in the 1971-72 Budget to be paid to the Woodbridge Irrigation District for canal main- tenance as per an agreement. GRAPE On motion of Councilman Kirsten, Mayor FESTIVAL Katnich second, the Council approved an allo- ASSN. cation of $1, 500 for the Grape Festival Association. CHAMBER OF On motion of Councilman Ehrhardt, Kirsten COMMERCE second, the Council approved an allocation of $8, 300 in the 1971-72 Budget for the Chamber of Commerce. -1- Minutes of June 23, 1971 continued SAFETY COUNCIL The Council approved an allocation of $1,610 to the San Joaquin County Safety Council on motion of Councilman Kirsten, Hughes second. Councilman Ehrhardt abstained from voting on this matter because of a possible conflict of interest. C OF C The City Manager explained that the $500 HOST FUND Chamber of Commerce Host Fund for enter- tainment of distinguished visitors to the City had been depleted in the amount of $36.25. On motion of Councilman Hughes, Kirsten second, the Council approved reimbursement of $36.25 to this fund. ANNUAL AUDIT Funds in the amount of $1,500 were approved for the Annual Audit on motion of Councilman Kirsten, Ehrhardt second. OTHER The City Manager reviewed the following proposed DEPARTMENTS budgets: City Attorney, City Manager, Planning Department, Finance Department, Police Depart- ment, Fire Department, Public Works Department, Parks Department and Library. He pointed out that four additional positions had been provided for in the budget. They are as follows: Planning Department - Junior Planner Police Department - Three Police Officers At the request of the Council, Police Chief Marc Yates discussed the staffing of the Police Department. Under the discussion of the Public Works Department budget, the Council expressed concern with the extensive use of the Sanitary Landfill by residents other than those of the City of Lodi and the adjacent San Joaquin County area. The Council took no action to approve the budget at this meeting. EXECUTIVE At 11:05 p.m. the Council adjourned to SESSION executive session to discuss personnel matters.
