HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - May 10, 1972464 CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF LODI CITY HALL COUNCIL CHAMBERS MA Y 10, 197 2 An adjourned regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi was held beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 1972 in the City Hall Council Chambers. ROLL CALL Present: Councilmen - HUGHES, KATNICH, SCHAFFER and EHRHARDT (Mayor) Absent: Councilmen - PINKERTON Also present: City Manager Glaves, Assistant City Manager Peterson, City Attorney Mullen, Planning Director Schroeder, and Public Works Director Jones. PRESENTATIONS Mayor Ehrhardt announced that the purpose of this adjourned meeting was to afford Councilmen an opportunity to report on activities in which they have been involved and conferences they have par- ticipated in recently. Mayor Ehrhardt reported on the National League of Cities conference held in Hawaii last December. He discussed briefly two sessions that were of particular interest to him --gun control legislation and labor relations. Mayor Ehrhardt also reported on attending the Pacific -Asian Conference of Municipalities held at the same location immediately following the National League of Cities meeting. The purpose of the latter meeting was to develop better under- standing among Pacific nations, primarily through the strengthening of Sister -City relationships. Councilman Hughes also attended the National League of Cities conference and reported on revenue sharing and cable television as presented at the conference. Councilman Schaffer announced he has been appointed a member of the League of California Cities' Trans- portation Committee. He said the primary purpose of the Committee is to review and make recommen- dations on legislation affecting transportation. He is also a member of the Economic Development Action Committee of San Joaquin County as well as the Area Planning Association of San Joaquin County. The latter group was formed to, among other things, review applications for State and Federal grants. He said that body is composed of elected representatives from each city in the county plus one member of the Board of Supervisors. The meeting date is the fourth Tuesday of each month. Councilman Schaffer, who is now serving his second term as chairman of A. P.A. , recently attended the National Conference of Councils of Governments M Minutes of May 10, 1972 continued in Portland, Oregon. Councilman Schaffer is also the City's representative to the Folsom South Water Users Association. Councilman Hughes reviewed the current position of the Northern California Power Agency. He said a non-profit corporation will be formed to issue the bonds necessary to provide funds for the construction of generation facilities to supply power to the member cities of N.C. P.A. He said the contracts for power with the various member cities will provide the collateral for the bonds. He said the Council will receive a full presentation from N.C. P.A. representatives at the time the matter of contracts appears on the City Council agenda. Mayor Ehrhardt reported that he also serves as the City's representative to the Local Agency Forma- tion Commission, the Highway 12 Association and the Lodi Drug Abuse Council. City Manager Glaves stated that he has been appointed to the Intergovernmental Relations Committee of the League of California Cities. He also reminded the Council of the annual conference of the American Public Power Association to be held in San Francisco June 26 - 28, 1972. EXECUTIVE The Council adjourned to an executive session at SESSION 10:05 p. m.
