Notice and call of special meeting of the Lodi City Council SPECIAL MEETING LODI CITY COUNCIL MONDAY, JUNE 13, 1988 4:00 P.M. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT a special meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi is hereby called to be held on Monday, June 13, 1988, commencing at 4:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers, City Hall, 221 West Pine Street, Lodi. The Agenda for this special meeting will be as follows: 1. Roll Call 2. Appointment/ratification of appointment of independent legal counsel for the City of Lodi Personnel Board of Review (Motion) 3. Closed session regarding labor relations 4. Adjournment Pursuant to Section 54954.2(a) of the Government Code of the State of California, this Agenda was posted at least 72 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting at a public place freely accessible to the public 24 hours a day. Reimche, City C er The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tempore Snider at 4:00 p.m. ROLL CALL Roll call was recorded by the City Clerk as follows: Present: Council Members - Hinchman, Olson, Reid and Snider (Mayor Pro Tempore) Absent: Council Members - Pinkerton (Mayor) Also Present: City Manager Peterson, Assistant City Manager Glenn, City Attorney McNatt and City Clerk Reimche APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT LEGAL COUNSEL FOR THE CITY OF LODI PERSONNEL BOARD OF REVIEW Agenda item 2 - "Appointment/ratification of appointment of independent legal counsel for the City of Lodi Personnel Board of Review" was introduced by City Manager Peterson and City CC -2(f) Attorney McNatt. Mr. McNatt apprised the City Council that the following attorneys have indicated a willingness to serve in this capacity: 1. Howard Seligman: Private practitioner, Stockton, California. Substantial experience in trials and personnel matters. 2. Alan Smith: Trial attorney, Stockton, California. Extensive trial practice, experienced in evidence and procedure. 0 I Continued June 13, 1988 3. Christopher Eley: Trial attorney, Stockton, California. Mr. Eley is presently under contact to the City of Stockton to provide independent legal counsel in situations similar to that presented in the Davenport matter. Addressing the City Council regarding the matter were: 1. Mrs. Ray Davenport 23324 North Dustin Road Acampo 2. Mr. Ray Davenport 23324 North Dustin Road Acampo 3. Mrs. Lorraine Bledsoe 1612 West Elm Street Lodi (Member - City of Lodi Personnel Board of Review) Following discussion, Council Member Hinchman moved to appoint Attorney -at -Law Alan Smith. The motion was seconded by Council Member Reid. Following additional discussion, both the maker and second withdrew their motion because of the fact that Mr. Smith would not be available on June 16, 1988. Following additional discussion, on motion of Council Member Olson, Hinchman second, the City Council, by unanimous vote of all Council Members present appointed Attorney -at -Law Christopher Eley to serve as independent legal counsel for the City of Lodi Personnel Board of Review. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned by Mayor Pro Tempore Snider at approximately 4:30 p.m. to a Closed Session regarding labor relations. Attest: Alice M.
