HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - August 23, 19947V HUT ETI NS GOMMUNIQITE QUARE HUTCHINS AND OAK STREET / 125 SOUTH HuTcniNS, SurrE A / LODI, CAUFOMIA 95240 / 209/333-6782 MEETING MINUTES Old LUF-IS Site Foundation Tuesday, August 23, 1994 A joint meeting of the Old Lodi Union FEigh School Site Foundation and the City Council was held on Tuesday, August 23, 1994 on the North Hall Patio at Hutchins Street Square at 12:00 noon. Board members attcnding: Bud Adams, Dennis Bennett, Bnice Burlington, Daphne Felde, Julia Gillespie, Jeffrey Kirst, John Ledbetter, Evelyn Olson, Chuck Simpson, Staff Liaison Charlene Lange and senior advisors Oneta Lange and Frank Johnson. Guests: Ben Schaffer, retired board member, Tom Peterson, City Nlan:rger; Jerry Glenn, Assistant City Manager; Bob McNatt, City Attorney, and; City Council members Phil Pennino, Steve Mann, Randy Snider and Mayor Jack Sieglock. Items discussed included the following: DEDICATION OF THE VIOLA FAHRNER PATIO Ben Schaffer, retired member of the Old LUHS Site Foundation Board gave a brief review of Miss Irner's connnitnrent to Lodi and her contribution of $233,000.00 of which part was used to construct the -th Hall patio. REVIEW OF FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTIONS The Council reviewed the recent contributions from the Foundation including the kitchen in the North Hall and the patio ata combined cost of $133,756.60. Future projects include the entry plaza which should begin in October and the caretaker's apartment, located above the adult day care facility. Other discussions included questions from Phil Pennino on the proposed perimeter wrought iron fence to act as a deterrent against the increase in vandalism and as protection of the neighborhood. Steve Mann commented on the commitment of the Foundation and asked if there was any discussion and/or interest to match the debt dollars against other construction donations. Chairman Bennett commented that the board members are "personally involved with the development of the Square and dedicated to insure its completion". Ben Schaffer commented flint he was proud to see the Foundation continue their enthusiastic approach to the project: "Everyone in Lodi can benefit -- everyone gets something" with the completion of the community center.
