BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi received Proposition 1 B funds from Transit Safety, Security and Disaster Response Account (TSSSDRA) for automated fare box equipment. Automated fare boxes have been installed on all the transit fleet vehicles. Fares have increased with the automated fare boxes since they provide the drivers with a mechanism to verify collected funds. The next phase of the project is to install a stationary vault (Exhibit A) for drivers to empty the collected fares from the bus fare boxes into a stationary vault. The proposed vault will be located inside the north end of the dispatch building, providing a mechanism to securely transfer collected bus fares into the vault. The vault automatically separates coins from bills to facilitate the counting process. Currently, the dispatchers manually carry the fare boxes to the transit station counting room that is less secure than a stationary vault. Approximately $200,000 in fares are collected each year. Under a separate contract, City staff will retain a contractor to install the vault at the transit station. In September 2011, City Council adopted a resolution approving the standardization of the GFI GenFare fare box equipment and waiving the formal bidding process. The current fare boxes are only compatible with the proposed GFI GenFare vault. FISCAL IMPACT: Purchase of the transit fare collection vault equipment will provide safe and secure transfer of passenger revenues to the transit station counting room, reducing the chance of theft. FUNDING AVAILABLE: Funds have been appropriated in FY 2013/14 capital equipment purchase (125285.7718). r--Aa- Jordan yers Deputy City Manager/Interna Services Director A. , I 'd ' F.
