HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - December 17, 1986 (105)PARK Sometine ago Council had received a letter from Lori Blanke on the care of the ducks at Lodi Lake Park requesting CC -16 fishing restrictions at the lake. The matter was referred to the Recreation Commission and to Staff for investigation and report. Ms. Blanke was informed that the ducks are currently fed twice a day and that the City has a working relationship with the Micke Grove Zoo and a Zoological Society through the County to take care of injured or wounded animals, birds, etc. which are nursed back to health and released, accordingly, back into the wild. Ms. Blanke has indicated to Staff that she was satisfied that all was being done that could reasonably be expected and that she did not wish to pursue the concern any further. As per your direction, the matter was put on the agenda of the Parks and Recreation Commission on Tuesday, December 2. Ms. Blanke called my office on the day of the Commission meeting, indicating she could not attend the meeting that evening but wanted information regarding the feeding program and care of the ducks at Lodi Lake. I informed her that the ducks are currently fed twice a day, 5 gallons of feed each feeding, and that we have a working relationship with the Micke Grove Zoo and a Zoological Society through the county to take care of injured or wounded animals, birds, etc., which are nursed back to health and released accordingly back into the wild." Ms. Blanke indicated her satisfaction with this program. In relation to stopping or reducing fishing at Lodi Lake, she stated it would be very difficult because not only would you have to stop fishing in the Lake but in the river as well, which is under County control, and it would take away the leisure opportunities of many senior citizens, youth, and the general public. After this dis- cussion regarding the fishing question and being very comfortable with the care and welfare of the ducks by our Department, she concluded her call by saying she was satisfied that all was being done that could reasonably be expected. She indicated she did not want to pursue the concern any further. I reported the above to the Commission and they were satisfied with the above action. RW: j d CITY COUNCIL CITYFRED M. I am writing to you to request that you prohibit fishing in Lodi Lake. Since the lake is drained each year the fishing is negligible. The ducks are experiencing health problems and dying because of fishing line, hooks, etc. As a lifetime resident of Lodi, I want to see Lodi Lake continue as I remember it. Keep the ducks. I have contacted the State Department of Fish & Game and Supervisor Barber. Please work together to see that the ducks enjoy a wonderful life. Please let me know what I can do to see that fishing is prohibited at Lodi Lake and the ducks are happy and healthy. Thank you very much. LB: ME Sincerely, LORI BLANKE REGAL PET TREATS
