Hein Lam, Lodi, CA 95240 * (209) 369.7411 - 466 02S3 November 23, 1981 Mr. Marvin Davis Engineering Department City of Lodi, City Hall Lodi, California 95240 Dear Mr. Davis: I want to thank you for your timely response :o my urgent concern for establishing an additional bus loading area on Vine Street for Lodi Senior Elementary School. Approximately 650-700 of our st-'ent population of 1092 are bused to and from school. At dismissal time, 2:00 p.m., all 1092 children are leaving our campus and these 650 bus students now must exit primarily through one exit. The congestion for several minutes creates a real safety hazard for our students. By establishing the bus loading area on Vine Street for four buses (180 foot area) 200-300 students would be able to exit the school area through two north exits. I have, also, asked that you address my concern for the speed limit in front of the school -- the 35 MPH sign currently on a post in the Lodi Senior Elementary parking lot (just south of the school). I feel that 35 MPH sign should be removed immediately anu signs indicating 25 MPH when school open should be placed as needed from north of the Vine - Ham intersection to near Kettleman Lane - Ham intersection on both sides of the street. I am planning on attending the City Council Meeting on December 9th to answer any questions the Council members may have. Thank you again for visiting Senior Elementary during bus loading time to assess our situation and for preparing the Proposed Bus Loading Plan on Vine Street. I appreciate your concern for our mutual problem of providing safety for 1092 students. Box 320 Lodi, California 95240 Dear Mr. Davis: As you are aware, Lodi Unified School District is in a dramatic growth mode. TLe schools were designed for less children then they are currently housing and the bus loading areas are insuf ficient and create safety and discipline problems, due to their overcrowding. The Lodi Unified School District, therefore, requests 180 feet on the south side of Vine Street opoosite of Cortez be established as a new bus loading zone. Thank you for your continued good help to the school district. If there is anything you need to know to expedite this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. WAC: j Sincerely, 6 William A.
