Under the sponsorship of the DIAL-A-RIDE Lodi-Tokny Rotary Club, nxenbers of the Lodi business P1lfXtAA' conmimi ty have been contributing fvmds to support this free service to the senior and handicapped n tubers of the Lodi Comunity. Pine Street Lodi, CA 95240 Dear Mayor Snider: It is my pleasure to advise you that the Lodi-Tokay Rotary Club has arranged to again sponsor the holiday Dial -A -Ride program. Under the sponsorship of the Lodi Tokay Rotary Club, members of the Lodi business community have been contributing funds to support this free service to the senior and handi- capped members of the Lodi community. It is our pleasure to be able to offer this program again, especially since it was received so well last year. On behalf of the President, John Metz, and the members of the Lodi-Tokay Rotary Club, we thank you and the City staff for allowing us to become so involved in our community. Notice thereof having been which publication is on file for the public hearing to within the City of Lodi. published in accordance with law, and a copy of in the office of the City Clerk, the Mayor called receive testimony concerning unmet transit needs Present: Mayor John Randy, Snider, City Manager Glaves, Assistant City Manager Glenn, and City Clerk Reimche Also present in the audience was City of Lodi Public Works Administrative Assistant Sharon Blaufus, San Joaquin County Council of Goverrments Representatives Peter Verpoorn and Gary Dixon, County of San Joaquin Public Works Department Representative Duralee Boles. Mayor Snider called the meeting to order and Rave a brief presentation on the purpose of the hearing. Mayor Snider then opened the public hearing and the following persons gave testimony concerning the subject: a) John A. Ochsner 5 Chestnut Street Lodi Mr. Ochsner asked about the numl:* r of Dial -A -Ride vehicles routinely running. line Assistant City Manager advised that 5 vehicles are running during the main part of the day. b) Shirley Klein 216 East Oak Street Lodi Ms. Klein presented the attached petition marked Exhibit "A" and thereby made a part thereof bearing approximately 129 signatures reading as follows: "The undersigned do hereby petition the City Council of the City of Lodi to establish a fixed route bus system within the city in addition to the current Dial -A -Ride system, which we feel is inadequate to the needs of the citizens of Lodi. " Ms. Klein elaborated that the proposed fixed route system would be intended to serve the transportation needs of all ages. Also it was the intention of the proponents of the fixed rise system that this be in addition to the Dial -A -Ride system. c) Irene Rodacker 317 Acacia Lodi Asked if only one bus on the proposed fixed route system might be equipped for handicapped. W. Pete Verpoorn indicated that State or Federal regulations dictate the percentage of public transportation vehicles needed to be so equipped. d) Ted Rodacker 317 Acacia Lodi Indicated that the major problem is the trains in town and asked why there couldn't be an underpass for trains. Mr. Rodacker indicated he liked Dial -A -Ride but asked about extending service to Saturday and Sunday. e) Laura Cates 336 Louie Avenue Lodi NU. Cates indicated her interest in extending Dial -A -Ride service to include Saturday and Sunday. Nbyor Snider asked for s show of hands of those people in the room who use Dial -A -Ride. Approximately 50% of those present other than City. County. or COG Staff meters indicated they did. %yor Snider further asked how many people were happy with Dial -A -Ride and the majority of those who indicated they used Dial -A -Ride indicated they were happy with the service. Assistant City MRnager Glenn discussed the feasibility of week -end Dial -A -Ride service. f) Edna Weber 3121 Flora Lodi Carplimented Dial -A -Ride and the service it provides. g) Ms. E. Sargent 2064 R Flora Lodi Also complimented Dial -A -Ride and its drivers. h) Mr. Norman Voss 820 N. Lincoln Way Lodi Representing the Senior Citizens Club talked about their members using Dial -A -Ride and the extension of service to include weekends. i) his. L. %bite 301A E. Oak Street Lodi Cmplimented Dial -A -Ride and its service. j) Mrs. Rose Gi annet t i 333 South Fainrnnt Street Lodi Indicated she would like buses to go to Senior Citizens to transport mmbers to/ fran meetings. Mrs. Giannetti emplemented the Lodi-Tokay Rotary and the Lodi Merchants for the free holiday rides. k) Irene Wimer 1501 Holly Drive Lodi Asked about nurbe r of Dial -A-Ride vehicles in service at one time. Assistant City Manager Glenn responded to the question. 1) Henry Martin 304 Aca(=.a Street Lodi Complained about trains going through town. m) Mrs. Irene Rodacker 317 Acacia Street Lodi Talked about the opening of Oak and Walnut Streets. n) Shirley Klein 216 East Oak Street Lodi Asked various questions regarding the underpass that was suggested earlier. Questions were raised about the average waiting time for Dial -A -Ride and the Assistant City Manager responded about } hour. o) Nadine Aberle 123 South Sunset Drive Lodi Asked if there were marry requests for Dial -A -Ride at 7:00 a.m, and suggested if not perhaps the hours could be adjusted to serve the comnmity to a later hour with service camnencing at some hour after 7:00 a.m. The Mayor expressed appreciation to all who atterx3ed and the meeting was adjourned at approximately 2:00 p.m. City Clerk Reimche presented the attached letter from Candid Feliciono for Inclusion into the record.
