COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
RECOWENDED ACTION: That the City Council adopt a resolution establishing a bus
Zone(between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on school days only) as shown
on the attached Exhibit A.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Mamie Starr, Facility Planner, Lodi Unified School
istr ct, as requested that the existing unlimited time parking stalls as shown
on the plan, be converted to a bus zone between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and
4:30 p.m. on school days.
The area of the proposed bus zone is presently marked for approximately 42
diagonal parking stalls
The School District will reimburse the City of Lodi $680 as the cost of
installing the signs.
Since the high school appears to be the only property affected by the change,
and has already reserved some onsite stalls for visitors and has plans to
provide additional off-street parking to compensate for the loss of the
on -street parking, the Engireering Division recommends the request be approved
subject to nt for signs and provision of 40 additional onsite stalls.

Attn: Jack Ronsko, Director
Public Works Department
Subject: Parking Modifications - Lodi High School
Dear Jack:
I have received a request from the Principal at Lodi High School,
Dutch Williams, and the Director of Transportation, Mr. Merle Jewett,
to communicate with you regarding a change in curb color on Pacific
Avenue in front of Lodi High School.
Both gentlemen are requesting that the curb be changed from parking
allowed, to red, from the parking lot driveway south of the buildings
to the driveway on the north side of the buildings. Most of this
area is dirrently an inset curb. It is the school's desire to have
this area available for bus loading and unloading, as it was origi-
nally designed.
Since the District's last communication with the Council and staff
on the matter of traffic and parking at this site, the entire trans-
portation facility has been moved off campus, freeing up additional
parking area and the school has moved to an extended day schedule
with more bussing than in past years.
It is our intention to redesign the old bus parking area to provide
for additional student and facu:ty parking, thereby replacing and
supplementing the lost on -street parking places. The required handi-
cap parking space will also be relocated to the north side of the
campus, closer to a building entrance.
Thank you for considering our request and if deemed appropriate,
placing it on the Council agenda.
The City's cooperation in dealing with the Lodi High School traffic
and parking situation is very much appreciated. If there are any
questions, it might be best to direct them to the principal.
