AWARDS
PROCLAMATIONS
Presentations were made to Lodi artists Margie Buck and
Joel Nichols, winners of the postcard contest sponsored by
the Lodi Arts Commission.
Mayor Reid presented the following Proclamations:
a) "Preventing Youth Problems Month" - received by
V,. Darrel E. Johnson, Lodi's representative to the
Crime Awareness Prevertion Commission.
b) "Second Annual Safe Schools Week"

Lodi artists Margie Buck azd Joel Nichols, with three drawings each,

are the winners of the postcard contest sponsored by the Lodi Arts Commission.
Rach of the entries, among 23 drawings submitted by a total of nine artists
ranging in age from nine years old to adult, bas earned a $25 award and will
become the property of the City of Lodi. Winners were determined by LAC
members in a secret ballot.
Buck and Nichols will be presented with their checks st the commencement
of the Oct. 27 city council meeting. Other participants will receive certi-
ficates of anoreciation, and their entries will be returned to them.
Subjects of the winning postcard designs include the Lodi arch, the
new library building, Lodi Lake, a winter vineyard scene, an antique
pumphouse, and a stylised design of grapes and leaves.
Once reduced and reproduced as postcards, these desings will be placed
fot- fale., at various retail outlets, and copies of the cards will be included
asong gifts to be presented by Mayor Fred Reid when he visits Lodi's sister
city of Kofu, Japan, in the spring..
Also among the gifts will be two drawings submitted for the postcard
contest by Kay Tamura of the city's engineering staff. The sketches ---of
the gateway to Kofu Park and the park's sign and monument ---will be suitably
framed for the occasion by the Lodi Arts Commission.
LAC vice-chairman Carol Marvel served as contest• coordinator, assisted
by Cay Stewart and Laura Wild.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, November 1982 has been designated PREVENTING
YOUTH PROBLEMS MO,NPH to focus on a need for community -wide
prevention effozcs and to address the problems of juvenile
delinquency, drug and alcohol abuse, teenage pregnancy, truancy,
child abuse, etc., which often are found in combinations and,
WHEREAS, awareness of youth reeds and resources for
m*eting those needs are essential for developing momentum for
a community -wide youth problems prevention effortf and,
WHEREAS, schools, churches, community agencies, parent
groups, and fraterna- organizations should unite their energy
in a community -wide prevention effort= and
WHEREAS, a special focus on prevention of ;youth
problems will help to bring about community -wide awarenesci
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RFSOLVIED that the City of
does hereby proclaim November 1982, as,
PREVENTING YOUTH PROBLEMS MONTH
in the

to recognize the necessity of a community -wide effort of aware-
ness and education to combat youth problems.
