FROM: THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE October 12, 1984 SUBJECT: ARES (Auxiliary Robotic Education Systeri) Robot One of the requests 1 made of International Systems, Inc. was that they look into a grant to purchase an ARES Robot (A-jxiliary Robotic Educational System). The robot would have two primary functions: 1) Use by our School Resources Officers in school training programs: (a) Child molestation (b) Drugs (c) Alcohol (d) Bicycle Safety The possibilities are limited only by the imagination. 2) Video tape of Child abuse cases. Has proven effective in gaining needed information an:; also has reduced the number of not -guilty pleas Nhere used. Ann Johns of International Systems Inc., believes she has funding available and needs authorization to anoly for the Grant. Cost of the unit is approximately 1,17,700 including the trailer fcr the robot and training in its use and maintenance. She states she needs author;zation within thirty days. Stockton Lodi, CA 95240 City Manager City of Lodi Lodi, CA 95240 City Clerk Citv of Lodi Lodi, CA 95240 Parks and Recreation Director Ed DeBenedetti addressed the Council regarding application for Local Assistance Grants under the California Parks and Recreational Facilities Act of 1984 (184 Bond act), Mr. DeBenedetti described the following three: projects that staff feels have merit and meet the requirements for Grant Funds: '84 Bond Regional Competitive Program 100% Funding Amount of Grant Request $60,000 Est. of Total Project $60,000 PROJBCr: Lawrence School Softball/Soccer Field Lighting` c , The Recreation Department in cooperation with Lodi Unified School District has for years used the Lawrence School ball field for City sponsored softball and soccer games. Demand for playing fields in the evening hours has exhausted existing lighted facility space. Funds are being requested K. to provide ball field lighting for the three diamonds located at the school site. The school district has indicated that they would be willing to lease the ball field to the City at no cost for a period.; of 50 years. Lakes, Reservoirs and Waterways Program 100$ Funding J Amount of Grant Request $97,000 L Estimate of Total Project $97,000 14IM F)CI' : Lodi Lake Restrooms Renovation & Handicap Niodifications 1` This project cons?sts of rehabilitating the restroom on the. south side of the park and replacing the restroom on the north side. Both facilities will be constructed to meet State Handicap requirements. z RBGI(M, aCAIPETITIVE PfCCR*l 100% Funding Amount of Grant Request $180,000 Est. of Total Project $180,000 Blakely Park Swinming Pool Addition The project consists of constructing a 48' x 75' pool and filter system north of and parallel to the existing 30' x 55' pool. An increased demand for space for swimming lessons, recreational swimming and practice space for summer swim leagues indicates a need for additional facilities. The existing dressing and restrooms can be used for the additional pool. Dur. DeBenedetti presented a detailed project proposal and justification on each proposed project and responded to questions as were directed by the Lodi City Council. Following discussion, on motion of Mayor Snider, Olson second, Council adopted the following Resolutions pertaining to the approval of application of Local Assistance Grants under the California Park and Recreational Facilities Act of 1984 ('84 Act).
