TO: THE CITY COUNCIL DA1 E NO.
FROM: THE CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE October 12, 1984
SUBJECT: ARES (Auxiliary Robotic Education Systeri) Robot
One of the requests 1 made of International Systems, Inc.
was that they look into a grant to purchase an ARES Robot
(A-jxiliary Robotic Educational System).
The robot would have two primary functions:
1) Use by our School Resources Officers in school
training programs:
(a) Child molestation
(b) Drugs
(c) Alcohol
(d) Bicycle Safety
The possibilities are limited only by the imagination.
2) Video tape of Child abuse cases. Has proven effective
in gaining needed information an:; also has reduced the
number of not -guilty pleas Nhere used.
Ann Johns of International Systems Inc., believes she has
funding available and needs authorization to anoly for the
Grant.
Cost of the unit is approximately 1,17,700 including the
trailer fcr the robot and training in its use and maintenance.
She states she needs author;zation within thirty days.
I would be pleased to make a presentation at either a shirt
sleeve session or a Council meeting if the Council desires.

Parks and Recreation Director Ed DeBenedetti addressed the
Council regarding application for Local Assistance Grants
under the California Parks and Recreational Facilities Act
of 1984 (184 Bond act), Mr. DeBenedetti described the
following three: projects that staff feels have merit and
meet the requirements for Grant Funds:
'84 Bond
Regional Competitive Program 100% Funding
Amount of Grant Request $60,000
Est. of Total Project $60,000
PROJBCr:
Lawrence School Softball/Soccer Field Lighting`
c ,
The Recreation Department in cooperation with Lodi Unified
School District has for years used the Lawrence School ball
field for City sponsored softball and soccer games. Demand
for playing fields in the evening hours has exhausted
existing lighted facility space. Funds are being requested K.
to provide ball field lighting for the three diamonds
located at the school site.
The school district has indicated that they would be willing
to lease the ball field to the City at no cost for a period.;
of 50 years.
Lakes, Reservoirs and Waterways Program 100$ Funding
J
Amount of Grant Request $97,000 L
Estimate of Total Project $97,000

Lodi Lake Restrooms Renovation & Handicap Niodifications

This project cons?sts of rehabilitating the restroom on the.
south side of the park and replacing the restroom on the
north side. Both facilities will be constructed to meet
State Handicap requirements. z
RBGI(M, aCAIPETITIVE PfCCR*l
100% Funding
Amount of Grant Request $180,000
Est. of Total Project $180,000
Blakely Park Swinming Pool Addition
The project consists of constructing a 48' x 75' pool and
filter system north of and parallel to the existing 30' x
55' pool. An increased demand for space for swimming
lessons, recreational swimming and practice space for summer
swim leagues indicates a need for additional facilities.
The existing dressing and restrooms can be used for the
additional pool.
Dur. DeBenedetti presented a detailed project proposal and
justification on each proposed project and responded to
questions as were directed by the Lodi City Council.
Following discussion, on motion of Mayor Snider, Olson
second, Council adopted the following Resolutions pertaining
to the approval of application of Local Assistance Grants
under the California Park and Recreational Facilities Act of
1984 ('84 Act). The motion carried by unanimous vote.
