The Office of Traffic Safety has agreed to a partial funding of our request
for a traffic unit. Due to the number of applications for grants and the
Iiroited funds, three officers at top step, 1004 the first year and 504 the
second year. Total grant funds are approximately $179,000.00 for the two
years.
It will be necessary for the City to fund the equipment necessary (see
below.) Total equipment cost for three units is $38,806.42. Equipment
includes:
3 Motorcycles - $18,900.00 - delivered to our door, siren included.
(This price is quoted by Kawasaki)
3 Radios for motorcycles - $8,924.59 Model MCXI00 - installation
included.
3 Portable radios - $7,922.67 total
(All radios must be ordered within 30 days to bind quoted price.)
3 Helmets - $213.06 total - model S-1608 Davis Company
3 Radar Guns - $2,846.00 total - Roadrunner Kustum Electronic
When -this program was initially presented to the City Council a few months
ago, we advised the Council that the City would be required to fund -the
purchase of the motorcycles ($18,900). We were hopeful that she State
would fund the balance of the equipment (radios, helmets, etc.) Because
of limited funding the State informed the City ,that only two of the three
officer positions would be funded Through negotiations wewere able to
retain the funding of the third officer' position in exchange for the City
purchasing the remaining required equipment as listed at an additional
$19,906. Since each officer position is funded at 1004 the first year and
504 the second year, this agreement is a definite advantage to the City.
