RENGHEALICE CITY CLERK CITY CL, CiT`�' Or LOON C;; Y Cr Lm Dear Mayor Olson: Olson The Emergency Medical Services Awareness Week Committee composed of medical and emergency services representatives from throughout the county for some time have been planning an Emergency Medical Services Awareness Week observance for the week of September 18 through 24, 1983. This is designed to be a coordinated effort to focus attention on emergency medical services that are available in the various com- munities and to conduct an education program directed to the general public. The education program will heighten the aware- ness of what is available in the field of emergency medical ser- vices and what actions individuals should take in emergency situations. Several cities are planning displays or special programs during Awareness Week. As a part of the education and recognition aspect of the obser- vance, the committee is asking the county and cities in the county to proclaim the week. Copies of sample resolutions are attached for your information. In some cities, representatives of emergency medical services may want to receive the proclamation during the council meeting. DRAKE Public Information Officer DED: ar 31 WHEREAS, the emergency medical services consist of pre- hospital, hospital and public safety specialists trained to pro- vide immediate medical aid for those with life or limb threatening injuries or illnesses;.and, WHEREAS, the magnitude of emergency medical aid in San Joaquin County includes 36,000 paramedic field runs annually and some 160,000 emergency patient visits to the County's seven acute care hospitals, and there are more than 83 million emergency patient visits annually; and, WHEREAS, American College of Emergency Physicians is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary as an organized medical profession, which also is the occasion for a special Awareness Week, a coordinated endeavor by all of the emergency services to focus attention on the services available from paramedics to the acute hospitals and to bring to the public's attention an aware- ness of their lifesaving role in the event of an emergency. NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Mayor , do hereby proclaim the week of September 18 through 24, 1983, EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AWARENESS WEEK in in recognition of the significance of emergency medical assistance to our health and well-being and urge all per- sons to be aware of the pre -hospital, hospital and public safety services provided by emergency medical specialists.
