filed with this Commission in connectionwith Application Nos.
54272 and 55211onor about June 6, 1978, and Application No. _
84-05-093 on or about May 22, 1984, respectively. In addition, :
the operating rights and properties of American Buslines,'Inc.'
were merged with those of Trailways Lines, Inc., as approved by
the Interstate: Commerce Commission on November 19 1985. A
request to change the P.U.C.'s records to reflect this merger and
related name change from American Buslines to Trailways and t -o
reissue the relevant certificates accordingly is _presently
pending before this Commission

SCOPE OF OPERATIONS
Trailways conducts operations in both interstate and
intrastate commerce as a passenger stage corporation,,and:holds

JUSTIFICATION FCR.RELIEF SOUGHT

Trailwaysrequest to discontinue service`is made 'on thejk
grounds that its service over the identi-fied routes have
generally resulted .in an operating loss and that the public con-
venience and necessity is not further served by the continuation
of Applicant's service.over such routes', in thatsuch routes are,
currently being fully served by another carrier, Greyhound Lines,
and partially served by Pacific Trailways.
Attached hereto, marked exhibits as hereinafter
designated and by this reference made a part hereof, are the
following documents relating to Trailways' operations over the
routes to be abandoned and .the routes to be preserved, and to the
operations of other carriers currently' -serving the routes to be
abandoned by Trailways:
Exhibit C = A map, to scale showing, in yellow, the
routes to be abandoned by Applicant;
in red, the routes over which
Trailways' operations will continue; -
in blue, the existing routes
of Greyhound Lines; and, in green, the
existing routes of Pacific Trailways.

By this application, Trailways also requests that an
in lieu certificate be granted reflecting Trailways' entire pre-
sently authorized operations and including the changes sought
herein. Said changes may be accomplished by eliminating all
._• routes previously assigned to American Buslines and revising

those designated as 2.01, 2.04, 3.01, 3.02, 3.03, 3.04 and 3.05
therein.

COMPLIANCE WITH RULE 15 AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Trailways has set forth in this application all of the-
information •required under. Rule 15 of the Rules. of Practice and
} Procedure which is currently available Trailways believes and
alleges that, with the'exception of that information described as
contained in Exhibits K and L above, which will be submitted to
this CommissionYn a`supplement hereto, the information contained
herein and in the exhibits attached hereto is sufficient to
justify the relief. sought. Accordingly, Trailways thus believes
and alleges that the within case is a proper one for waiver under
-: Rule 87 of the Commission's Rules of Practice of any .information
As more.fully.appears from the allegations herein and
the exhibits attached hereto,°.Applicant's request for authority
to abandon the identified routes will not significantly affect
the public convenience and necessity over said routes.
Thus, no
'useful purpose would be served by requiring a hearing on the
within application.Applicant therefore alleges that this matter
is one which the Commissir:n may consider on an ex parte'basis-and
without formal hearing. However, if a hearing should be
required in this case, Applicant is prepared for such hearing at
the earliest possible date convenient to the calendar of the
Commission.

CEnTIFICATION.OF SERVICE
Copies of this anni.ication are being mailed to all per-
sons whose .names and addresses are set fortis in the certification
of service attached hereto. Trailways will also mail additional
copies of this application to such further persons as may be
designated by the Commission.
WHEREFORE, Trailways prays that this Commission make
its oraer forthwith:
(a) Authorizing Applicant to abandon service
between all point::, in; California, except along those routes spe
cifical.1y designated herein, on or before April 1, 1987 upon ten
days written notice to the Commission;
(b) Granting Applicant an in l.:eu certificate
reflecting its entire presently authorized operating rights
including the changes sought herein; and
