REIFICHE xial CITY CLERK tal MY OF LOCI e We are pleased to inform you that Lodi Memorial Hospital has scheduled September 9-10, 1982 as the installation dates for Lifeline. Basic Facts About Lifeline: 11 — Lifeline is a personal emergency response program, provided as a community service by Lodi Memorial Hospital that helps elderly or disabled persons maintain their independence by remaining in their own homes. -- 1t consists of three elements: e an electronic unit attached to the home telephone and a portable help button worn by the subscriber o an emergency response center in the Emergency Room Y responders selected by the subscriber — Subscriber criteria: e must have three responders • must have a physician on the Lodi Memorial Hospital Staff a rust live oithin the Hospital's service area The system does not provide medical management or diagnosis. The equipment simply relays a message for help to the Response Center and the personnel then call the designated responders. In some situations, because of the subscriber's medical condition, emergency medical aid is summoned immediately. We have enclosed some information which explains the program. The study shnwed t.iat it was particularly upeful to elderly and hanuicapped people who live alone. Lifeline helps users remain Independent and in their own homes while decreasing the cost of long-term medical care. U.FELJNE conMets of fluve parts: Electronic equipment located in ,our home. An emergency response center, located at the hospital where trained personnel provide 24 hour/ day coverage. People who have agreed to respond to your call for help. Whenever you need help, any time of day or n+ght. you just push the button to contact the hospital's emergency response center. Z Your call for help activates your home unit — attached to your teiephone — which automatically dials the hospital. This el Lifeline home care unit can work even if your phone is off the hook and during a power failure. 10 ftb� The unit can be pro- grammed to auto- .._. • � . mahcally dial "one" and/or an area code. 3 At the hospital emergency response center, trained personnel are on duty day and night. When they receive your signal for help, they will: 4 Immediately try to reach you by telephone to see what help you need. 5 Send a "Responder" to your home d they are unable to contact you by telephone. "Responders " are people that you seled in advance — a friend. neighbor. relative. or anyone elm you choose to be called in the event of an emergency. 6 Upon arriving at your home. the respond r signals the hospital by resetting the Lifeline unit. if you need medical help. the responder can either take you to the hospital or have an ambulance sent to your home. 7 The home unit includes a timer. You reset the timer automatically every time you use your telephone. if you become unconscious, or are otherwise unable to reset the timer. Lifeline automatically calls the hospital and starts the emergency response procedure for you.
