&e: The Oleander medium on Cherokee lane from Almond Dr.
to f'ovu`lar St.
I have r--ide an ' ir.7 • .- .LO nvr-,t-rt.r.t in
the city of Lodi, and -ioT, only ss oro-, rt;,r owners 'jut
the owner of a business '-h.-,t J n brinrirw a lot of r.:oney into
-t.he cie<y from the Surrolndin- tO-W r 1 f -N_'!. thZlt :'le C 'ty Of
Lodi should solve a problem ;hit exist::.
I wmrt the city of Nodi to ri;move or -it letest trim down
to a 3' heielit 0te oleander bu%hov in the medium .r. Cherokee
Lane. Their present heikh Oast"ucis vision and cr "' 8 an
extreze'traffic hazzard. 1 have seen drivers come -out of
Almond'give and after turning left finally realize that they
are going- in ._ he wrong direction. Ben Csborne of lent -s "ic --eo-
tric tells --me that *he has wittnessed the same thing on
numerous occasions.
':he Oleander wall currently creates a freeway atmosphere
where traffic coming orf the freeway doesn't slow dowii until
it reaches the Kettlemma and Cherokee Lane intersection.
I understand that there is a siga`_' cant imrovement
plana for Hutch' rs Street. 'Aly is Cherokee Lane being left
out? I was reou'red to conform to specific building requir-
ements which included a large amour.: of grass arAa, vet no
one hon ing South on Cherokee Lane would even know that my
business is here. '.his is not right and 1 reques. that the
city of Lodi correct tris s tua:3.on.
I have been told that approval has been given to trim the
Oleanders i!' the property owners would pay the cost of their
triming and then also mainta:.n them it the future. 1 am sure
that you all realize how this ip-i gyres the issue of safety
and stimulation o -cc::-! business. The chance of organizing
all the affected business owners and cor.nr to a fair assess-
ment for each would be a project tree* which the city would
receive -a lot of bad p_•')licity, a'_^r.g w th many cinims of
unfairness. Yet even so, I am row and w4_;1 be in the future
willing to vky a reasonable amount it this :s wha: it will
tune to create a safer traffic area and a better business
climate for South Cherokoe Lane.
