SUBJKT- APPROVE PURCHASE OF TWO ADDITIONAL VEHICLES FOR THE POLICE r,FPARTM'1Nj PREPARED BY: Assistant City Manager RECOMMENDED ACTION: The City Council authorize the purchase of two vehicles and radios for the Police Department. One to be assigned to the Combined Rural and City Narcotics Enforcement Team (CRACNET) and the second to be assigned to the Community Service Officer program, and to authorize the transfer of $15,000 from the General Fund Operating Reserve to the Equipment Fund. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: When the budget was presented to the City Council it contained the recommendation of hiring two Community Service Officers instead of one Police Officer. in order for these positions to be most effective, we need to " provide them: with transportation. We will have four Community_ Service Officers working with patrol with overlapping days and overlapping hours which will requi''re a second vehicle. The previous agenda item authorized the formation of a narcotics enforcement team. As part of our commitment, we need to provide a vehicle. It is recommended Council approve the purchase of these vehicles from rental agencies or fleet dealers (used vehicles) as authorized by the recently adopted change to the bidding procedure outlined in Lodi Municipal Code Section 3.20.070. In order to fund this equipment purchase, a transfer to the Equipment Fund from the General Operating Fund Reserve in the amount of $15,000 will be required.
