SUBJECT: Tree Pruning Program - Lodi Lake Park
DATE: July 31, 1984
At budget time Mr. Mendez and I discussed the above project with
you, and at that time Mr. Mendez hae asked for $20,000.00 just to
get the program started. It was also indicated at that time that
we had received three informal bids, ranging from $37,000.00 up
to $70,000.00.
You stated during the budget hearing that you wanted to put this
situation on hold. In the meantime, we have had three big limbs
come down at Lodi Lake Park, and since the second limb incident
you have indicated to me that we should. go ahead with the program.
Mr. Stein stated that since it was an emergency situation, we
could contract with the lowest bidder to do the job.
Problems We ure in the process of doing this, and because Mr.
Brent, the tree trimmer, submitted a bi:: so much lower than the
others,_ I want to be sure that we all understand each other. I
have discussed this with him and he is ready to go even though I
don't have a formal agreement in my hands. Mr. Stein was supposed
to put something together for us; however, I have initiated some-
thing that I think will suffice in order to get us started with the
project.
There is still a problem in that we asked for $20,000.00 and the
project will cost $37,000.00. I feel Mr. Brent is qualified, and
as I stated to him, if the work is not satisfactory, we will stop
immediately.
Consequently, I am requesting that the full $37,000.00 be given to
the Department so that we can go to work and get the Lake Park area
in the best possible shape. If we do $20,000.00 worth of work now,
we really don't know where to stop. Since he is willing to do the
entire project for $37,000.00 and the price is so good, I would
like to go ahead.
I would like your approval for these funds as soon as possible.
Thank you in advance for your help.
