PUBLIC WORKS.DEPARTMENT
TO: City Council
FROM: City Manager
DATE: July 12, 1985
SUBJECT: Parking on Elm Street @ Public Safety Building
RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council take the necessary action to reserve
on -street parking stalls for the use of emergency vehicles:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: At the request of the Assistant City Manager, the
Public -Works Department undertook a parking survey of -the civic center area.
From this survey a number of changes are being made to increase the capacity.
and use of the existing off-site areas.; In addition, it became apparent that
the parking on Elm Street immediately adjacent to the Public Safety Building,
could provide space for both fire and police vehicles which would relieve the
area behind the Public safety Building.
This department is, therefor6, recommending that the eight stalls shownon
the attached sketch be reserved for emergency vehicles only as soon.as proper
signing can be installed. The four to the east will be reserved for fire
department sedans, while the four to the west will be used for police,
sheriff and CHP vehicles.
