HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - July 21, 1982 (31)NOTICE TO BIDDERS TO APPLY CLASS II SLURRY SEAL The City of Lodi invites sealed proposals to apply Class Ii Slurry Seal to City streets, conforming to specifications on file in the office of the Public Works Director, City Hall, Lodi, California, where copies of said specifications may be inspected or obtained. Sealed proposals shall be delivered to the Purchasing Agent at the Lodi City Hall, P.O. Box 320 (221 W. Pine Street), Lodi, CA 95241 at or before 11.00 A.M., WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4, 1982 and will be opened on the above day and hour in the City Hall Council Chambers, City Hall, Lodi, California. The City of Lodi reserves the right to reject any or all bids or to accept other than the lowest bid. Reference is hereby made to said specifications for further details, which specifications and this notice shall be considered part of any contract made pursuant thereto. CLASS II SLURRY SEAL Sealed proposals marked "Bid to Apply Class II Slurry. Seal" will be received by the Purchasing. Agent in his office, City Hall, P.O. Box 320 (221 W. Pine Street), Lodi, CF 95241, until 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, August 4, 1982, at which tior_ :hey will be publicly opened and read. BID REQUIREMENTS 1. General Description of the Work The work to be done consists, in general, of sealing various streets by placing a C14ss Ii Slurry Seal over existing pavement. Areas to be Slurry Sealed are shown on attached City of Lodi map. 2. Specifi-cations Slurry Seal shall conform to the requirements of Section 37-2, State of California, Standard Specifications, January 198.1. Mixing and placing of Slurry Seal shall cont arm to the requirements of Section 37-2, State of California, Standard Specifications, January 1981. 3. Materials 3.1 Bituminous Binder shall be mixing type asphalt emulsion C SS -1 with grade 60-70 paving asphalt base (American Asphalt Institute designation C SS1-h Quickset Cationic Emulsion) conforming. to Section 94, Standard Specifications. 3.2 Application of Slurry Seal The mixture shall be spread to an average thickness of 3/16" with a minimum thickness of not less than 1/e" and a maximum thickness not to exceed 1/4" and shall be placed at a rate of not less than 10 pounds or more than 18 pounds of aggregate per square yard. . Notice Inviting Bid Slurry Seal Page 2 3.3 Aggregate shall conform to the following gradings: SIEVE SIZE PERCENTAGE PASSING 3/8 100 No. 4 90-100 No. 8 65-90 No. 16 40-70 No. 30 25-50 No. 200 5-15 4. Special Provisions 4.1 Surface Preparation City of Lodi shall be responsible to flush, patch and crackfill streets prior to sealing. 4.2 Stockpile of Material City of Lodi shall supply area to store aggregate required for sealing. Stockpile area shown on attached City map. 4.3 Weight Tags Ci':y of Lodi shall be supplied a copy of the weight tags of the aggregate delivered to the stockpile. 4.4 Sieve Analysis Successful bidder shall submit a sieve analysis by a certified testing laboratory prior to delivering aggregate to stockpile 4.5 Notification of Residents City of Lodi shall notify residents of street closure, date and time. 4.6 Protection of Utility Risers City of Lodi shall oil all utility risers prior to sealing and clean lids after sealing. 4.7 Maintaining Traffic and Protection of Work Site Contractor shall be responsible to furnish all barricades and signs to protect work site and safe passage of public traffic. 4.8 Beginning and Ending Limits of Work Start and finish of Slurry application shall be a straight line obtained by laying a strip of building material and removing after Slurry Seal is applied. Notice Inviting Bid Slurry Seal Page 3 �' ..L.�.,... Slurry Seal shall cover the crack between toe of gutter and pavement without protruding onto the concrete. No excessive build-up nor unsightly appearance shall be permitted on longitudinal or transverse joints. 4.9 The contract price of the Class II Slurry Seal shall include full compensation for furnishing all labor, material, tools and equipment to apply the Class II Slurry Seal and no additional compensation will be allowed therefore. This includes cleaning up all. excess materials and protecting the Seal from traffic damage until the mixture is cured sufficiently so that material will not adhere to the tires of a vehicle. Of 4.10 Contractor shall complete work within 30 days after award of bid. James W.
