GOLUg.HL.1C,IGTY CLERK ATTORNEY AT LAW CITY O C L O^ I CITY I `1 June 18, 1985 TO: THE STATE, COUNTY AND CITY OFFICIALS AND INTERESTED PARTIES PACIFIC GAS and ELECTRIC COMPANY (PGandE) hereby gives notice that it has filed an Amendment to its Application No, 83-09-49 (which was filed September 19, 1983) in which it requests authority from the California Public Utilities Commission to recover through rates the costs to decommission Humboldt Bay Power Plant, Unit No 3 (Unit 3) . In its Amendment to its Application, PGandE requests to recover over a period of 15 years an additional amount of $9,668,000 annually to decommission Unit 3. (Decommissioning refers to the overall process through which radioactive material is safely. removed and the plant is ultimately dismantled). The additional request is caused by the recent enactment of the Tax Reform Act of 1984, P.L. 98-369, Internal Revenue Code §468A which Act changed some of the tax assumptions used by the Commission and PGandE to estimate certain tax costs associated with decommissioning. To recover these additional costs. associated with Unit 3, PGandE requests to raise electric rates by a total approximating $13 million annually (or less than (1) percent). The requested increase in rates will not raise PGandE's Electric -Department rate of_return above the level last found fair and reasonable by the California Public Utilities Commission. Inquiries relating to the proposed increase, including requests to receive notice of the date, time, and place of hearing, may be directed to the CaliforniaPublic Utilities Commission z.t the above noted address. The State, the counties, the municipal corporations and other parties interested in the above described filing will be furnished a copy with related exhibits, upon written request made to Pacific Gas and Electric Company, 77 Beale Street, Post Office Box 7442, Sari Francisco, California 94120, Attention: Howard V. Golub. This Notice is given -in accordance with Rule 24 of the revised Rules of Practice and Procedure of the California. Public Utilities Commission.
