Traf-fic Our four Driver Improvement Schools in Stockton, Manteca, Tracy and Lodi were attended by 2326 traffic violators who were referred by their local traffic courts. Continuing our commitment to provide an educational approach to the drinking driver, our DWI Course was successfully completed by 350 court -appointed -offenders. The National Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course continues to be a major part of our traffic safety programming with 313 people successfully completing the intensive eight-hour course. High school Driver Ed. Departments, public agencies and private organizations used our free -loan film library extensively accountinp- for 528 separate bookings. We provided --free of charge --films, literature, research material and statistical information on bike safety, school crossings, pedes- trian safety, school bus safety and other specifically requested sub- jects such as occupant restraint systems, mopeds, etc. Occurational Meeting a greatl.v increased number of requests for various services from our industrial community was a difficult tas'r, but we are pleased that we were able to handle almost 100' of the rPnuests with little delay. Many of the requests were for the use of our films and we processed 108 rook.—s on various safety subjects that reached an audience of an estimated 2500 workers. Our occupational safety train'ng prnFzram ir,cludpd half-day ard. full-day sem{ pars and works',ons on various subjects, two 2 -dart Sa `'Pty M-iname:ment Courses attended by F,3 foremen and supervisors, and seminars ^.d,.ictpr] r!1,—{ n *ie?tinrF : cif the Council's nc,.upa— tional nivision. We launched special -emphasis programs in support of 'National Poison Prevention Week, Safe Boating Week and Fire Prevention Week, and provided news releases, editorials and articles to the news media on a variety of timely topics in an effort to inform our citizens of specific hazards and proper prevention techniques. r■
