SOUTH ORANGE AVENUE
ALT DGiNG OPERATION
OF A "DANCE STUDIO"
City Clerk Reimche presented a letter petition that had
been received signed by approximately 25 people which read
OC -16
in full as follows
"We, the undersigned, do not approve of the dancing studio
that Mr. Vallejo has been operating (illegally) for the
past several years at his hare at 240 South Orange Avenue.
It is a noisy, yelling, disturbing situation... sometimes
going on late at night, disturbing the peace of our quiet,
beautiful, residential neighborhood.
Now ... Mr. Vallejo is planning to enlarge his 'dancehall'
and increasing this annoyance.
We wish that you would not approve his request."
The following persons addressed the Council speaking in
support of Mr. Vallejo stating he was a "good neighbor" and
was not creating a noise problem in the neighborhood:
a) Mrs. Joyce Siewert, 220 S. Orange Avenue, Lodi
b) Mr. George Mullen, 221 S. Orange Avenue, Lodi
Council discussion followed with questions being directed
to Staff. Cammunity Development Director Schz-oeder
indicated that as long as Mr. Vallejo is not running a
oonmercial venture, he was not in violation of the City
Code. Mr. Schroeder further indicated that his office
would watch the situation.
No formal action was taken by the Council on the matter.

Dear Jim:
RE: Construction Project 240 South Orange
As a property owner and neighbor to 240 South
Orange Avenue, I take strong opposition to a
proposed construction project at that address.
Ever since the present owner occupied the premises,
he has taught dance lessons which I understand is
a zoning violation.
All the neighbors fear that the addition will
only make the problem worse by increasing the
size and amount of the lessons.
Sincer ly,

Dear Mr. Vallejo:
RE: Room Extension
240 South Orange Avenue
The City of Lodi has received complaints that dance lessons
are being given at your home, 240 South Orange Street, Lodi, CA.
Conducting a business of this nature is not allo:sed in an R-2
Residential Zone.
We are in receipt of your application to add a 40'x45' room
to your home. The unusually large size of this room tends to make
us believe you may use this space to expand the illegal dance
lesson business:;
We will not be able to issue a building permit for the room
addition until you have received approval of the Community Development
Director and the City Council.
If you have any questions regarding any of the above, please
contact me at 333-6714, Building Inspection.
Sincerely,
!j
