Dear Mayor Katnich:
I want to thank you, on my behalf, and that e,f
all the hostages now restored to freedom, for the,
honor shown us by your City in its expression of
support and commendation. We and our families hat@
been overwhelmed by the kindness and love of our
countrymen. It has been a reflection of America'%
finest traditions of compassion and regard for
freedom and we will always be grateful.
I would also appreciate your conveying my thanks
to the citizens of the area, so many of whom have
written us -- more than we can possibly respond t®
directly. That is especially true of school chile en,
whose expressions of strength and decency give us;
great confidence in the future of our country.
