Pacific Telephone has filed an amendment to its
application, originally filed August 1, 1980s, with the
California public Utilities Commission (CPUC). The filing
seeks an increase in rates to offset an increase in
depreciation expenses due largely to recent approvals by the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the CPUC of new
depreciation rates for telephone terminal equipment that
reflect the shorter lives of the equipment brought about by
advances in technology and increasing competition.
In addition, Pacific Telephone is seeking rates to
offset the CPUC's approval of an increase in 1981 Remaining
Life Depreciation rates for all telephone plant, including
terminal equipment. Pacific Telephone also is seeking adoption
by the CPUC of Equal Life Group, a new depreciation method
approved by the FCC.
A public witness hearing on the amendment will be held
at 10:00 a.m., July 12, 1982, at the CPUC, 350 McAllister
street, in San Francisco. -
The amendment, filed June 7, 1982, is part of the
continued hearings ordered by the Cpuc in the Company's 1980
rate case (Application No. 59849). The filing is formally
designated as the 'Third Amendment to Application for General
Rate Increase". The request represents a 1.4 percent increase
in total intrastate revenues, or $69.9 million a year.
However, this request will not change the previously authorized
profit level of the company.
